got connected afew hours ago so first off, i've taken a speedtest...

i wish it was this fast :p

im using the o2 box, do these stats look alright?

DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,282 / 11,684

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.0 / 36.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 6.5

Speed tests are not a good way to check your actual download speed. Try downloading from servers that you know are fast such as microsoft/apple and use multiple connections.

The thinkbroadband speedtest always reports low numbers for me too, whereas speedtest.net shows the true speeds I get.

For that downstream attenuation your sync speed is fine (I sync at 10500 with an attenuation of 39.5). If your line stays stable you could try tweaking your downstream S/N target to 3db using DMT (google it) which could get you another 500kbps.

Also make sure you're doing a speedtest when connected via a wired (not wireless) link as everyone and their dog now has a wireless network which slows them all down (unless you're on a very different channel).

More importantly, 802.11g wouldn't max out your connection.

Speedtest.net is garbage, as suggested you want to be looking for a decent sized file from a site that you know works well. Something like this.

my main PC is wired, and its the one i did the tests off of

this morning it sycned at 1,274 / 10,490
just downloaded the 100MB_nonzero.bin and its saying 100mb done in 4 minutes 3 secs - transfer rate 421kb/s

just tried it using my netgear DG384G, synced at 1095 / 10992
same file downloaded, saying 100mb done in 3 mins 36 - transfer rate 474kb/s

edit : with FDM download manager on IE7 i have been downloading some trailers at speeds between 800kb/s - 1200kb/s

Downloading the 100MB nonzero I'm getting 1.0MB/s (megabytes), so there's definitely something screwy with your connection.

Whereabouts are you based? BE/02 have suffered from some contention issues down south (however I've just SSH'd into our office in london and on the BE line they have there I'm getting 1.66MB/s).

Tested the 100MB .bin and is indeed fast. Maxed out at 2.21MB/sec.

so i rang them up and he just told me to wait until the first 10 days had cleared due to line testing
my problem now is i cant play any online games, for example CSS gives me a connection error message after about 3 minutes ingame
i'll switch back to the DG834G and see if i get the same problems with that

oh and my stats today :
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,282 / 11,224
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.5 / 37.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 3.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 408 / 670,224
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 408 / 199
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 22,047 / 159

theres a lot of errors there, could this be causing all my problems??

To know whether the error counters are relevant, you need the number of frames transferred too. The BeBox makes an awful job of counting errors though, so I wouldn't put too much importance on them.

I've lost 1mb with the so dont worry ::( down to 14mb now. I bought an xte2005 filtered faceplate & a shielded rj11 cable, dont know if ocuk sell these cables so I wont say where is came from. This has help my router stay stable so I'm happy here, google may help

just a slight update the line has stayed synced at 1,287 / 11,216 for 3 days now, download speeds are still around the 200kb/s area unless a download manager is used

currently downloading the crysis demo using free download manager at 820kb/s

DSL Type: G.992.3 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,291 / 7,671
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.0 / 33.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 6.5

todays stats... is there any reason why the router now reports the DSL type as being G.992.3?

G.992.3 is ADSL2 (ie. not 2+). Mine does that occasionally - just give it a reboot and it'll more than likely come up as G.992.5 again with a higher sync.
