O2 network down for some

Had zero issues on giffgaff the last week. Even been using 3G today.

As reference:

I believe Virgin/Tesco are on the O2 network. Giffgaff use the O2 network for phones, but use a different data network.

A friend has had 0 service on Vodafone, in central London, was a bit odd...

Anyway, I'm in the middle of the countryside, happily browsing on the web :)

Posted from my HTC on O2.

Perfect timing for me... I've just moved from Vodafone back to O2 but thankfully everything appears to be working ok here (Bolton).

The network, which has around 23 million customers in the UK said the problems began at around 1.30pm and have continued into the evening

Maybe my number port broke the network as that completed around 1:30 :o

Before switching to Vodafone 12 months ago, I was with O2 for about 4 years and suffered 1 outage in that time so I was hoping for the same excellent service. Especially coming from Vodafone, which has been pretty ridiculous with coverage tbh. Let's hope O2 don't make this a regular occurrence.

Thing that makes me laugh, and dont get me wrong I understand the seriousness of the situation and the frustration and inconveniance its causing. However a lot and i mean a lot of people are saying they are going to stop their direct debits and jump ship to 3 and vodaphone etc.

What people seem to forget is this has been the first major outage in o2's 10 year history whereas vodaphones had quite a few with its most recent being last year and people constantly struggle with 3's signal with a few outages thrown on top. Anyway hopefully this will get remedied soon as tomorrow shan't be a fun day in work if this continues.

From what I've been told:

It's not the network signal, it's to do with the SIM registration software. There's a fault in the software and it's refusing SIM card trying to log on to the network.

Seems the issue that affected me and others a few weeks ago has cascaded to the majority.

How O2 fixed it for me was to manually re-register my SIM card rather than letting the software do it automatically (which was failing).

IF it is this for the majority then that's gonna be a massive task to complete.

its not geographically based, to do with the sim cards. Last figures when I left work were 6% of o2 customers had full service.

I didn't think it had, but thought it might be of interest.

6%?! Well we all better receive a free gift or something - this is pretty poor.

Had some issues from about 17:30 - thought the new ROM I installed on my SGSII was playing up. After a hard reboot of my phone, things got better but some calls still didn't connect.

fingers crossed :) I honestly don't know.

PS free pizza from zizzi and free drink from cafe nero do for you freefaller? hehe. Priority moments does seem to be getting better. Plus no spend required, felt cheeky when i asked for mine though lol.
