Hello

Just wondered if anyone knows the deal around iPhone/Plam Pre upgrades...?

My iPhone 3G contract comes up in December but I noticed that O2 have stopped doing some of the bolt-ons - namely the unlimited texts one!

I am looking at possibly upgrading to the Palm Pre but I am concerned that O2 will not allow me to keep my unlimited bolt on's or upgrade to a Palm Pre for some months after my renewal date (because the Palm Pre is new)....?

I do not think a 1000 texts (with the extra 500 texts bolt on) will cut it! :(

I have tried to ring O2 to get the answers but I keep getting the "you will have to wait till the Plam Pre is released..." Surely these decisions have been made already!?

The decisions will have been made but whats the point in a release date if there just gonna tell existing customers?.
There right to say what they have I guess you will have to wait the 10days or so till its out, Im pretty sure the retail staff dont know what the tariffs and prices will be they always seem to be the last to know, so going in store is probably not gonna work either.
As for the bolt ons? Ive no idea I guess as you have already said they will probably not honour these now.

The point of release dates are merely a cause of logistics.

It's not unsual to know RRP/Price Plans before the day the product actually ships out or appears in stores - in fact with most products its good business sense to allow for forcasts...

Unlimited texts can be had on £35+ tariffs, you can usually haggle the monthly cost down, I have the £35 per month tariff discounted to £20 per month!

Yo mate, I work for o2, have done for ages, so I'll do what I can to answer any queries :)

Also, the unlimited text option DOES still exist, the big problem within o2 right now, though, is that since telefonica took over the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing! They change their mind about which phones and which tarrif's can have which bolt-ons at what time every 5 minutes, lol.

Basically, when it comes to bolt-ons, walk into a shop, those poor ******** on the phone are held at gun-point and half the time, tell customers that they CANT do something when, in fact, they can. :)

also, the Palm-Pre is worth the wait mate.

The software was designed by the same guy that captained the iPhone's software (check out the lawsuit going on right now), and it's very swish!

Just an FYI if you're an online order-er and not a "go in and get the feel of the unit" kind of guy, the actual handset does look and feel quite, tacky.

o2 are being right meanies' with the upgrades at the moment. They wanted me to pay £35 pounds a month and pay £50 pounds towards the phone (SE W995) and refused to move on ethier for me, who have been with them over 5 years.

They even refused to match other networks tariffs and price for the same phone and would even match third parties deals, which they was more than happy to do 18 months ago with my N95 black.

So I called phones4u, who was more than happy to just upgrade my handset for FREE and wanted to give me a BT headset for free (which was refused; one less thing to go into the bin) and give me £40 pounds cash back for some wierd reason??!

Does o2 what customers to upgrade with them and stay on their network? If it wasn't for the fact that the other 3 and a half networks are pants, it would have been easiler and cheaper to cancel and join another network.

PS the online upgrade website is totally pants, it wanted me to pay £190 pounds for the phone!

retentions, their excuss is that its the top of the range sony phone at the moment (how and why???) so no offers can be made.

Just got my phone now, no memory card nor loud speakers but it was free and cheaper in the long run.

It's all because of the iPhone mate, I'm so so so glad that all the other networks in the UK now get the opportunity to swallow that bitter-sweet pill.

It's a very simple case of supply and demand. For the last 2 years we've had iPhone exclusivity and sold millions of them! It's pretty much all o2 sold for the 2 year period, that and a couple of Blackberry's.

But the down side to that is how it damages the companies relationship with the other handset manufacturers out there and pushes up our buying cost; so o2 just can't afford to do Sony's, Samsung's etc... at the same prices as other networks and companies.

Also if you haven't already gone for the 995 DONT!! There's nothing bad about it, but there's nothing good about it either, all the critics just call the thing "average" and "acceptable".

Sony have 2 new handsets coming out for XMas, wait for them!

i've just left O2 and they are charging me £28.04 plus VAT for 11,216kb of data that fell outside of a plan they cancelled early. I'm fuming. never again.

I know its an average phone, thats why I went for it.. I'm never out or reach of a computer, so I prefer something small rather that larger and all singing/dancing.

I was gonna get the 8800 carbon for £500 pounds, but my GF slap some sense into me...

so o2 just can't afford to do Sony's, Samsung's etc... at the same prices as other networks and companies.

Is that why the range or phones so poor at the moment...

Thats why I wanted to upgrade as I got free unlimited data bolt on

I like your bluntness.

O2 are THE WORST network in the country. Their network is up and down more often than a prostitute's knickers and their customer service is appalling.

Thanks for the info guys - I think I will hold out till the 16th and see what I can get....I normally do buy phones online (although look at them in a shop first) but only because the shops deals always seem to be a more naff in comparison.
