Oblivion mods and tips

Probably want to install OBSE, Oblivion Crash Prevention System, Streamline, Fast Exit & Oblivion Stutter Remover.

Otherwise it's a pretty stable game:rolleyes:.

i tried playing vanilla first, but kept getting crashes. It was only when downloading mods like these that it was playable for me.

Quick update: After installing OBSE and OCPS the game is running but there seems to be moments of lag every so often, I'm hoping the stutter remover can sort that out.

Much better than it was earlier though

There is some kind of patch which forces it to use more RAM, can't remembed what it is though, i haven'y played Oblivion in a long time. Made the game smoother for me after someone recommended it.
Or it is possibly included with something else now i imagine. Someone else will know for sure.

Stutter remover should help a bit with that, there's a bunch of ini tweaks to make the game a bit more multicore friendly - they help a bit too.

It's the 4GB patcher, don't think it really helps much with Oblivion but can get it from http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php. It certainly doesn't hurt to have it patched.

can't see any ini files in my Document\ My Games\Oblivion folder

I get a choice of saves, blend settings, Oblivion and Rendererinfo

Finished installing some other mods and it's running sooooo much better. I've just picked my horse up and bumbled about a bit and there is no lag or slowdown and it didn't crash (although I expect it to at some point). Thanks a lot guys.

Going to finish this and then try and get BFME 2 working....

Scratch that ^^. I have just started Oblivion after posting that and it crashed straight away, it was running so smoothly before

Lol, you not running the normal Oblivion instead of the OBSE version (assuming you have things installed that need it?).

If it does it several times then somet is up but once... meh it happens.

....I forgot about running OBSE lol, I have been running the normal one......brb

Won't see him for hours now :)

I found out why I never saw any benefit for the 4GB patcher, if you use steam:

You have to change both Oblivion.exe, and GameOverlayRenderer.dll. The DLL is located in the Steam install root directory, and the Oblivion.exe is probably under it in steamapps\common\oblivion\

Oooh, is this sarcasm I'm reading

You were right though, with OBSE running it's smooth as hell and I have now just cleared the skeletons from Blackfallow Cove and it hasn't missed a beat.

My next problem is where to go next in this huge game. I'm the kind of guy that wants to do every little bit of it.

Thanks for the help again and I accept the criticism too, must be frustrating when you're trying to help people and they're not even using the right loader...

Just wander around and enjoy it, I would suggest picking a guild and worling your way up through the ranks before you go haring off on the main quest - whichever fits of fighters/mages/thieves/assassins.

Although you should always complete the Mages Guild initiate quests just to get access to your own spellmaking station. Unless you're willing to wait and pay through the nose to get the one working in one of the DLC homes.

I think I mostly do Dark Brotherhood because they're just cool as hell, second most I do the Mages Guild. Fighters Guild I've not done much but Thieves I've only actually completed them once.
Best quest is definitely the one where you have to sneak back through the starting dungeon and kill the other prisoner.

Arena is always fun too. Sometime I've gotta go in there with Invisibility/Chameleon spells and watch summoned creatures kill everyone :p Just a shame that almost every decent Summon is a Master level spell.
