Hi,
Been playing the game since last night and all was going well. Created an High Elf Mage and concentrated on summoning. To increase my summoning ability I repeatedly summoned the skelli. Went up in rank and went to bed when I awoke I had a vampire ability. Everytime I went up a level I gained vampire abilities but then couldn't go out in the sun. Now the mage guild wont talk to me,lol. What have I done wrong? Don't want to be a vamp how do I get rid? Is it because I have been calling the undead?

Any help would be appreciated

You got bitten...

Yep it looks that way. Being trying to find a way to suck blood but its not obvious.

Can't help as I don't actually have the game yet ¬_¬ I just read the PC gamer review and it mentions being bitten.

Yup me too :( Gives some good benefits but I want to be able to be out in the daytime.

Do have some guidance tho, but not much

SMALL SPOILER & GENERAL WARNING

Every time you fight vampires you stand a chance of being infected. If you go to a temple or get cured like other deseases within 3 days you are ok. Otherwise (like me you didnt notice) you become a full blown vampire which requires a quest to obtain the cure. see a chapel priest or healer to get pointed in the right direction

Benefits include night vision/Detect life increased general stats, the longer you go without feeding the more of a vampire you look (plus extra benefits such as invisibily for 30 seconds and ) and people wont talk to you so you will need to feed on a sleeping person periodically to look more normal (less powers) to buy/sell etc Beggars are an easy target as they sleep in the streets as are fellow guild members, just dont get seen - to feed sneek up to a sleeeping person and press space, you will have the option to feed or talk

i belive you have to find sleeping people and when you target them and press "use" it sucks their blood, the more you do this, the more "normal" you appear to people and they will then talk to you, and you also don't get harmed by the sun.

There are pro's to being a vamp, but as the myth goes, there are also downsides

yup yup, its perfect if your a theif, sneak in, snatch all there items and before you go just head up to the bedroom and have a snack while you pickpocket them :P

yep, I became a vampire by choice, decided I didnit like it and went back to an earlier save. You sneak up on sleeping people, press space, and then feed. The invisibility was very cool as well as the detect life because my work is killing people, but not going out in the sun was kind of annoying.

Hi,
Cheers for the input peeps. Not sure being a vamp fits in with my being a good high elf. Trouble is I have always used quick saves so it looks like I will have to restart, oh well. My only concern is that it doesn't happen again because this what not planned. Perhaps sleeping in a more expensive place is better for not being bit.

erm, did you not read my bit? :)

You dont become a vampire by them feeding on you, but because at some point you fought some. (small % chance of being infected each time)

You dont need to restart, unless you dont want to do the quest for a cure. I dont want to be a vampire (didnt know I could be one till it happened) but I will take what the game throws at me, part of the fun IMO

I don't think i'm a vampire, but everyone/everything (creatures) have a purple/pink glow/cloud that follows them when they walk.

Is this just some bug, or am I infected? It's annoying whatever it is.

Sorry m8 didn't see the blue bit. Now it all makes sense. I did fight something near the begining in a tomb. lol, come to think of it it did look vampireish. Yep your dead right, lol although I wanted to be a good char but if there's a cure I don't mind questing for it. Thanks for the help much appreciated.

Does not sound like Vampirism to me. Easy ways to tell are :

look at your character and if its got red eyes and paler skin then your infected (unless thats the way you made him of course) Looks worse the longer you go without feeding on someone.

look in the menu for active magical effects and Vampire will show up. Also shows in stats under 'days as Vampire'

You have a "Detect Life" item, it shows living objects at a certain distance with the pink cloud, even shows through wallks which works like a charm for me since I'm a stealth class.

Can ghosts only be killed with magical weapons? Or will silver work as well?

I'm pretty certain they can be killed with normal weapons. But I might have been using a silver sword at the time, so I don't know.

I seem to remember ghosts being like that in Morrowind, so as I only have normal weapons, I've been avoiding them in Oblivion thus far. Can you purchase ectoplasm anywhere or are there any really good ghost-busting spots?

OT: I got infected by a vampire, but used a cure disease scroll before I converted. Seemed to work. :)
