Oblivion Vampire. What, How When?? ** SPOILER **

I needed to level and found a bedroll in a tomb and only intended to sleep for an hour. Got turned into a vampire in that hour sleeping, so it does happen when you rest as well as fight vampires. Im finding it pretty annoying to be honest and rather stupidly dont have that recent a save.

Wont make the same mistake twice. You need to get to a chuch and pray at the alter as soon as you can as once you turn you have to do the quest which is franky really difficult.

I'm doing the quest to get un-vampired... I need 5 grand soul gems (? whatever they're called)
I have bought 2 and stolen 2 (from some guy in market area and the arcane university)
I can't find the last one... any ideas where one might be?

To be honest I just installed the mod that gives a certain vendors the "Cure of Vampirism" potion, I'm utterly against cheating usually but being a vampire totally ruined the game for me.
When I was stuck in the middle of nowhere (can't fast travel while taking damage), having to repeatedly jump off my horse to heal myself and use a couple of Sorcery potions so I could heal myself again in a few seconds I just logged off and couldn't bother to do the quest since it's probably the worst quest I've tried so far.
The potions aren't cheap so it's not like a get out of jail free card, just a lot more convenient. You could wake up another day and have a vampire sucking on your neck and you'd have to do that sodding quest again.

what about garlick in your inventory, will this stop a vamp biting?

Don't get me wrong, the whole vampire thing is brilliantly done and very cool (not just the being a vamp, but the way you get there etc) but it really didn't fit in with the way I want to play the game. I also didn't know about curing myself within the 3 days and didn't want to start loading in old games or starting over. Apparently the quest to actually the get the cure potion is very involved and, again, I really didn't want to be forced to go through all that right now. So I cheated.
I'm thinking I'll give being a vamp a go later on - it does sound cool. I just don't want to go there right now

Find the soul gems shes says... what? search all 19 square miles for them??? i mean cmon, theres not even a hint as to where they might be
The mage guilds are your answer for the cure.
As you do each one's quest, ransack the place and the people for grand soul gems and the ingredients you'll need for the next part. You can buy or steal.
There is also one under the witch's house
Check the empty fire place.

That's the only real thing I don't like about the quests - using WoW as an example - they always give you a decent clue as to where to go/what area to look in.
I've never played an Elder Scrolls game before - I don't know where to find things like ectoplasm. I'd forgotten I've seen Ghostbusters.

Like you said jono i dont want to be told exactly where to go all the time as i quite like wandering around, but i'd like some kind of vague idea where to be wandering, especially now i cant wander in daylight

I'm not sure how long you last for, seems to be a couple of days, but that gets swallowed up with all the fast travelling i've been doing to get the damn soul stones. However, if there's one in this stupid bint's house I'm gonna carry on with the quest.
I *have* cheated and cured myself, but I'm wondering if the count will give me some phat lewt as a reward.
I kinda miss being a vampire - i seem to have less strength now. I wonder if that guy will bite me again.
I also wonder if all the people I've bitten will turn into one. I've bitten pretty much everyone

For all those interested, there is a mod that makes cure vampire potion available in a certain shop. I'm going to do the quest myself but tbh I don't really consider it cheating if it is annoying you to the point of not wanting to play the game. personally i'd say being forced to play as a vampire stands more chance of ruining a game than installing this mod!

I prefer Morrowind for most of this.
Vampires were very secretative in Morrowind and finding them was interesting.
Also I can't help feeling Oblivions landscape its much smaller than Morrowind.
I sure hope hope the addons unlock other areas. If so are we looking at 6 or more addons
Yes I had the vampire disease but I never turned, all I can think is there is a small chance of not changing (which never happened) or the fact I had garlic in my inventory, which I permanently carry with me and I have not encountered any more of the blood suckers since.

The game is supposed to be about making your own choices and charater developement. To have the vampire thing forced on you just spoilt it!
The quest to cure it is ridiculously hard and no one can find the soul gems required!
I also added the cure mod which should have been in as standard IMO
