Oblivion Vampire. What, How When?? ** SPOILER **

has anyone become a Vampire by choice?

you can do so in the Dark Brotherhood...

i've told them i want to be one, i've just got to go to sleep in the hideout and i will be bitten... but all this talk is making me not to become one.

i think i'll become one and have a play around for a while... then if it sucks ass (or neck...), revert to an earlier save

Found the Gems ok (took me quite a while, though you can buy them easily enough if you are a Mage Associate) but was then told I needed to get the ingredients, saw them and knew it was going to take quite a while longer.

At which point I reluctantly used the cheat code to cure myself. Now going back to my original quest of joining the Mages guild that was so rudely interupted :) May finish the Vampire Cure later when I want to, not because I missed the 1st signs of infection and was forced to. (Got impatient with planning my daylight activities & travel around my midnight snacks) :D

That said I think the Vampirism is a good feature & well implimented plus I am going to miss the benefits. Just wish I had more chance to avoid it until I fancied having a go at it
 
@nikebee - go to a church soon - save it. I understand you can be unvampificated within 3 days if you pray at an altar.

yeah he says after 3 days i become a vampire, and talking to the guy says there is a cure (it's all part of a big sub-quest within the dark brotherhood it seems).

i haven't been bitten yet... just biding my time... think i'll do a few more quests before i choose the become one.
 
Damnit, i better not turn into a vampire. I just had a quest in which i fought several creatures and it said i'd caught the formentioned disease. So i can just go to a church and pray or something?

As you do each one's quest, ransack the place and the people for grand soul gems and the ingredients you'll need for the next part. You can buy or steal.

There is also one under the witch's house ;)
