Oblivion

Real Men make their own mods.I've not tried to get into scripting, but so far I've added three houses (one shack in the poor quarter of the city, one farmhouse and one major fort, complete with guards, guest quarters etc); altered the amount of magicka per intelligence, the speed spells fly, the magicka bonuses for Mage/Apprentice/Atranoch, experience for casting some forms of spell, the speed arrows fly, the damage done by two-handers (to actually make them worth using), the number of monsters you can summon at one time (I was going to try a "Zookeeper" build for a laugh) and so on. If nothing else it gives you a feel for how much work went into the game, the next time you see someone complaining about a rock in the wrong place.

Awesome. Game turned up at 11 this morning , installed it, patched it added the mods I want and it won't start a new game. I can get to the main screen but when I click "yes" to start a new game a message pops up with "Oblivion has stopped working" and it crashes :( Did a search on the bethesda forums and tried everything there but nothing is working. Running vista 64 bit if it's any help with all driver up to date.

EDIT: Scratch that, sorted it now.

2 questions...

Have Oblivion/S.I./KoTN/ooo and some other mods installed. Whenever I load the game it forgets my video options - they always reset back to defaults

I don't really like Quarls texture pack - too over the top for my taste. How can I can get rid of it? There's no mention of how to do this in the FAQ.

Thanks :)

I remember playing a bit on launch but my PC wasn't all that good, finally got a better one so what mods should I install for this?

Always run Oblivion from C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Oblivion.exe instead of OblivionLauncher.exe - the launcher adjusts your video settings when it thinks necessary. If you install new drivers it'll reset your graphic settings etc. so it's best to run Oblivion straight from Oblivion.exe.

It's a great game, and others have mentioned I have "lost" many weeks/months playing. The graphics were stunning for their time, and still are today :)

Still does it from there. The only way I've found of getting the settings to stick is by editing the ini file in my documents/my games/oblivion, but I can't find them all. Driving me nuts!

A bit cheesed of as I bought the GOTY version and now can't get the rest of the official mods as I'm running 64 bit vista. The official downloads don't work for it so the only way to do it is get the Direct to Drive version of Knights of the Nine with the DLC or the retail copy of it. Wish I had known beforehand :(

Yep that does suck, GOTY edition doesn't come with any DLC mods which is a bit of a rip off considering the whole point in Knight of the Nine is the Pilgrimage quest as well as the other DLC quests.

You can get DLC content working by installing it on a XP machine then taking the mod files from the Data\ folder and putting them into your Oblivion install on your Vista machine, worked perfectly for me ;)

Try set your settings, then go ingame, press the ` key (left of '1'), type in saveini and press enter, then exit the game.

Which would be awesome, but there are no xp machines in my house anymore :(

Try unpack the installers with UniExtract: http://legroom.net/software/uniextract

Nope that didn't work :( What is annoying is that I've got the DLC for the 360 version aswell :( I'm happy to pay for it again, but since Bethesda don't want to know that Vista is a real operating system that people actually use I'm surprised more people haven't d/l these illegally.

EDIT:

If I can prove that I have bought the dlc and legally own it, would it be okay to ask someone who has it for the extracted files? Or is it a bit dodgy? If so I'll re-edit this.

That's what I'd do, probably technically illegal but you have paid for them after all.

I had a great idea last night. Take my copy of oblivion and the dlc into work, install it on the xp machine in the office and copy the data directory, then merge it with the data directory at home. Installed the game fine, can't install the dlc though as it hangs and locks up :( looks like I'm going to have ti find the xp disc at home and reinstall it on the spare linux box I've got :(

Strange, did you try all the options in UniExtract, I managed to installed fighter's stronghold under Vista with UniExtract.

If you install them at work then just get all the files that start with DLC from the Data folder, no need to get the entire Data folder.
