Thanks Arty. I had considered opening the site up to a wider audience but the difficulty would be in keeping it unique compared to all the other 'hosting review' sites out there; moderating the reviews to ensure they were genuine, stopping the site becoming diluted by spam. I do like the way that it is currently ocuk-centric, with mainly UK hosts listed, many of which are small concerns, operated by OcUK members themselves!
I'd love to hear any thoughts or ideas you have though, my e-mail address is [email protected] .
I've nuked his 'extra' reviews but haven't banned his IP. Hopefully he'll be mature enough not to try again and too instead concentrate his energy on improving his business.
...for the same reasons I removed the Reg1 comment - the OcUK username is false, the e-mail address given is false and the comment is unfounded and serves no purpose.
No it hasn't. It's been down for an hour (issue was a little more complicated than a single lockup). To my recollection, that's the first time the server has ever crashed in 18 months of service.
Daz has come up with a formula for weighting the reviews based on the average rating and the number of ratings but I haven't had time to test it yet. As Killsta says though, you can sort by number of reviews then it's pretty easy to see who the 'favourites' are.
If you're going to rip off a site layout, it would be an idea to at least find something half way decent to nick If he'd just asked first, I'd have let him use it anyway! Cheeky git.
PS. robmiller if you're reading, can you add me to MSN [email protected]? Something I want to run by you.
Wow I didn't realise you were an OcUK member Crocket .
The site probably just belongs to some kid with a $5/month reseller account in the states. It's not worth your time pursuing him - he'll probably get bored with 'hosting' in a week or two and take the site down anyway.
To you, Mr. 84.64.26.122, I salute. Entering "<!--" in all of the fields was an act of pure genius and has shown what a 'n00b' I am by trusting users not to do that.
Ah sorry, that would be down to our friend mentioned in the above post - he rated Serverstream 1 out of 10 then entered <!-- in all of the fields. I'll correct it now .
