OC(UK) Host Review :-)

Just a temporary fix until I get my head around the SQL required to create a proper 'weighted' system but, as a default, the list is now sorted by the number of reviews multiplied by the average - I think that's a little fairer than the current system but stil far from perfect.

For the record, I've deleted 'Woodhorn Hosting'. Not only did they steal their site layout from the very site they're trying to promote themselves on (not to mention various other sites - see above) which is reason enough, I doubt very much that the reviews posted were genuine. Neither was the e-mail address used to submit for that matter "[email protected]" LOL :D.

That's a good suggestion and something I had considered before. Another useful field I thought would be one for the host's geographical location or, more important, the location of their servers.

The only issue is one of accuracy. If a user submits a host and enters inaccurate information, whose job is it to correct it?

This might be too ambitious, but It might be worth it being able to edit a review, say you have a bad experience? Maybe it only being able to be edited by same ip or something like that?

It's on the list of 'features to add'. It won't be done by IP but rather by e-mail address. You will be able to request a 'key' to be sent to the e-mail address you gave when you submitted your original review to enable you to edit it. For now, if you've had a bad experience with a host, just submit a second review :).

if I just want to register a domain, maybe get email forwarding, whos a good suplyer

2 of the top 4 on the list are primarily domain registrars and both provide free e-mail hosting/forwarding. One is a fully paid up Nominet member too ;).

Sorry, my fault. Some idiot has been spamming the Clook page, I must have forgotten to reset the average when I removed his last 'review'.

Was Clook the only one you noticed?

Does anyone else find the recent ukhost4u reviews a little suspicious? 3 positive reviews within the space of an hour after a succession of negative reviews, all 3 from non-existent usernames....

They're not from the same IP and the IPs do match the ISP supplied e-mail addresses which they've given but looking at the 'evidence', something fishy is going on. I'm just in 2 minds whether or not to remove the 'reviews'. Whenever I remove spam, they just seem to try even harder.

Hmm, I guess I should give them the benefit of the doubt. I really need to add a compulsary "what site do you host with them?" field to the review form to help validate submissions.

Thanks. I'll leave them be for now but there's going to be some major changes made as soon as I have some free time.

The last 2 actually belong to our mutual friend ;).

I'm going to be adding a "what site do you host" field when I have time and also giving previous reviewers the opportunity to update their review.

From the database? The domain hosted will be shown within the review itself in bold/big font so I don't think a separate table is really necessary :).

Any opinions on the new country flags? If anyone has a suitable collection of icons for all of the major countries, that would be very much appreciated. At the moment I only have USA, UK and Canada.

Reviews are also open to errors and blatant lies though. This just means you have to whois the domain and confirm via an address on the site, not the user to submit the info :)

Very true. I'll be revamping the submission form shortly with a "what site do you host" field and a "which country is this host located in" field and a few others when I have chance. Haven't got any more free time today though :(.
