Evening,

Just a quick one really. What do you lot think of the subject car (MKI)?

I know they can be re-mapped from 180Bhp to 220Bhp supposedly. Is it dangerous?

Things to look out for when buying one? And if you had £6k to spend what would you buy? Would you get one?

Thanks

Gareth.

Sorry it annoys me this one, its vRS. :p

Remaping will be safe really, best way is to ask owners who have had it remapped a long time.

OK, I think you're going to be right, Aero.

What other car would you choose iaind? Pick two.

Whoops - vRS. I'm losing the plot.

Really for that money I would be looking at getting a decent ST220.

I thought the whole point of getting a vRS is to get one cheap. Decent performance 4 door for the cash.

If were going to be picky its a 5 door.

The mondy mpg not nearly as good tho (35 to 27 on parkers). Depends how much miles you do and were you do them as to whether thats an issue.

And if you get a mondy have to get facelift, because the interior before looks naff.

I think the remaps easily to 220BHP thing is slightly over played. A generic remap should see the nice side of 200bhp but thats peak power which means naff all. What you do gain is gains of up to 50bhp lower down the rev range which is what gives them a big performance lift.

I'll have had mine 2 years this summer and I can't fault it too much if I'm honest. Kit wise try and get one with cruise. IIRC HIDs were an option but I've only seen them on later models. Other options are sunroof and parking sensors, neither of which I miss from mine not having them. Climate is standard which is nice :p

briskoda.net

Vrs are good for over 250bhp for sub 1k spent! (If your happy to send an hour or so in a scrapyard)

Mate has a fabia VRS at stupid power (well for a TDI)

But compared with the interior of an Octavia the prefacelift Mondeo interior looks better even after somebody has set fire to it.

Haha I don't especially like the prefacelift Mondeo dash - never seen an Octavia "in the flesh", is it that bad?

ah but the oct has white seats that look nice, (just get a bit dirty:rolleyes: that and the white carpet)

A female friend of mine much perfered the interior of the octy and I think I do too (pre facelift mondy) but I dont think thats lots in it the oct possible bit more different/speical with the white seats (half leather) that do look nice.

I was thinking about this last year, but couldn't find a mondy facelift in budget (price have changed a lot since then, plus back then the whole car tax thing ment the mondy would have cost 400? to tax and the oct cost less 300? cant remeber now what the old figures were, thats changed for now. It not such a diffrence now)

But living in London i decided the fuel costs could not be lived with, but the mondy does sound a lot better. But i like the idea of driving a rarer car, lots of mondys etc appealed to me and you can change bits of it if thats your thing.

It's not that bad but it's not good enough that you'd say its better than a prefacelift Mondeo dash.

The interior of the MK1 vRS put me off buying when I was looking (got a 172 instead)

It is still a nice place to be. The pre facelift st220 is better inside though.

Round here ST220's outnumber Octavia vRS's 2 to 1 at least!

Not being able to find a facelift in budget and fuel costs were what steered me to the Octavia too.

EDIT- Forgot to say for £6k you can take your pick of the latter, decent mileage examples
