Octavia VRS

mk1 Octavia vRS hatch does 0-60 in 7.6 seconds stock, no extra mapping. Estate does it in 7.7 sec. That's the official, regular, brochure figures.

It also does 35 mpg. I know, because my L&K with the same standard vRS mapping is heavier, I had 250kg of myself and equipment at the back and I just averaged over 38 mpg over the last 2000 miles (Kent to Scotland, four times across from one shore to the other, some B country roads around the centre, and back). It's a nice sleeper for a middle aged gentleman. No denying.

7.2 remapped. Believable. 7.0 remapped. Probably achievable. 6 seconds. Not even empty on the way down from the bridge.

There's been quite a few of these threads. They all go the same way.

Errrr.........when the crutch of your post and the want of said car is its pant wettingly fast 0-60 time then expect people to discuss this, it was a key part of your post

Discuss yes, take the rise out of the thread for the slightly over excited nature of the first OP, not really.

It is slightly tideous. I was hoping for a reasonable discussion because a VRS estate is on the "maybe" for me.

The op simply stated "want one" or in and internet meme like fashion "DO WANT". Plenty of people say this about a hell of a lot of vehicles that are stupidly fast, exotic, bonkers or otherwise but are probably not genuinely interested in owning or looking to go out and buy.

Saying "Want one" does not equate to "I am interested so want to hear more about them" sorry.

I rather clearly got the indication from the OP that it was "Man this Skoda was fast. People always say lol Skoda and I want one"

Considering a standard Mk5 Golf GTI has been timed 0-60 in 6.5 seconds by many mags I can't help but think a remapped vRS can get around this with a good launch with 30bhp more. Remember that the vRS has a 5 speed box so will do 60mph in 2nd a TTs/LCR 6 speed box needs 3rd to hit 60 and the TT weighs almost 1/4 of ton more.

I can't let an Octavia vRS thread pass without my 2p worth ;)

All the gearing talk- IIRC it will do 72 in 2nd but if you are reving it that high you are doing it wrong. The K03s runs out of puff before that.

Autocar test car- IMHO it was a very healthy stock car which showed more power on a dyno, not exactly the first time someone has quoted optimistic dyno results as gospel.

Remapped cars and 0-60- Well I think my one is closer to 7 now than the 7.6 stock in the right hands but mine is running a modest 205bhp map. With a slightly higher strung map I can see 6's being possible but we are talking HIGH 6's :p Remapping any 1.8T its more about the area under the curve than peak figures. My one is near enough at peak bhp at something silly like 4.5k and doesn't tail off for another 1.5k, nice useable power band rather than peak figure. Thats the limitation of the K03s at higher revs and the poor intercooler design at play right there.

Finally- OP they are pretty decent cars, you could do much worse. As you say when sat in one you can see the cost cutting but overall they are fairly decent cars. I would opt for one with cruise or consider a retrofit of it. I find mine essential.

Here have a photo courtesy of Cybershot of my one to help the love flow ;)

I was tempted by one 18 months ago when I changed cars. However I couldn't justify the costs to myself - ie the higher price of getting a good one than the Mondeo I bought.

I love the way the guy posts a thread about his brothers Skoda and how fast it is (which may be questionable), only to have ridiculous replies by the usual suspects.

Bravo to them. :)

6 seconds, I doubt it- but 6.2/3 is possible with a good launch.

6.5 is pretty realistic for 220bhp+ in an octavia imo. Remember they're only 1375kg.... or 1350kg if you remove the wheel and jack ehehe.

My only real question on this thread would be - 230bhp, are you sure?
Is that quoted or actual?
I'm assuming this is a Stage1 on the 1.8T engine - 180bhp to 230bhp.
50bhp from a Stage 1 alone.
Or if it happened to be one of the 1.8T's that stock at 190bhp, that is still a 40bhp increase on Stage a alone.
I'd say that was really pushing things.

Stage 1 remaps on average seem to top out at around 30bhp.
I'm getting my Mk2 VRS remapped.
200bhp at stock and although some of these remap company's claim anything up to 260bhp after the remap, even I'm sensible enough to know that realistically I'm looking at around 230bhp.

I didn't realise how stupidly heavy the standard wheels were until I had to change a tyre at the roadside :o

I thought the TT was about 100kg heavier than the Ocativa VRS?

I agree with what you are saying about the mk1, the mk2 however doesn't have the same limitations so I think you might be pleasantly surprised

I changed to the 16 inch steel spare in my missus Fabia vRS the other night. Now that thing was heavy!

I so want a remap, but I'm just too tight to part with the cash!

The 0-60 seems quite low. I thought they would be more than that.

So what options are available to get more power - bigger turbo I assume but how are the internals with bigger blowers/coolers?

Eliminator series turbo, bigger injectors, FMIC, FPR, Colder Plugs, 300BHP on stock internals, don't know how much they can take it depends on a few things, like which crank you have and what the size of your wrist pins are (actually i better call them Gudgeon pin's to keep dogbreath happy :p)
