OCUK 6970 TFIII (Lightning) review.

I hate intermittent problems I really do. But I learned my lesson on agreeing to things last year. Not doing it again, not with over £280 at stake.

I can't be bothered trying to make OCUK take it back unconditionally tbh. I will try MSI and if they refuse I'll just contact my CC company with all the info and get them to sort it out.

This might not mean much to you's having crashes. Have you tested your Ram? I used to get this random crashing when play counter strike couple years ago, after replacing GPU twice and still happening I almost given up. I was then given free 2GB ddr ram installed and it never crashed once after that.

I sent mine back under DSR and didn't bother with the usual RMA / faulty item route and got a refund. You don't need to specify a reason under DSR - you can simply send the item back if you are unhappy with it.

warmasice: how long do you have till you can send something back under DSR, I have opened my card and used it, but im not happy with it, to be fair. can they say no as well.

I ordered it on the 3rd jan 2012 and got it on the 5th jan.

You have 7 days (from the date when you received your item(s)) to return under DSR, as long as there's no damage to the item itself, they can't really say no.

Regarding Crysis, I just played it for a bit, not a single issue and the temp maxed out at 63c, tightening the screws really fixed the issues I was having.

Also, PancakeSniffer, tried reseating/replacing your RAM? I used to have similar issues until I replaced them.

P.Dhilllon: As stated above, you've got 7 working days to notify the retailer. Then you must send it back within reasonable time. But the retailer must refund you within 30 days.

Infact, your 7 working days are up today. So use the Webnote system to notify them about you'll be sorted. Let us know how you got on.

Cheers, ill try to have a check one day. But my CPU cooler covers the first DIMM so it wont be that simple unfortunately. But thanks for the heads up it looks like it could well be the problem, ill give it a go

My ram is fine as it's been in the system for as long as I have had it.

Plus every other GPU I have used has been fine..

Not a problem tbh as MSI have said they'll take care of it.

It's nothing against OCUK, I just don't like their policy coupled with the problems I am having. It's just a recipe for disaster.

7970 should be here in a couple of days and once it arrives I will RMA to MSI and get the card replaced and keep it as a spare :)

Well top job from MSI then for agreeing to sort this out for you. How would you rate their service?

Thos having problems is it with normal msi 6970 or the proper lightning? I was going to buy the normal msi 6970 from oc but not sure if I should now because all I read is about problems.

Well it's been 28 hours since they agreed and I've given them what they asked for and haven't heard anything yet.

I wouldn't be best pleased if it wasn't for the fact I will have another card here by Friday, but given that it's going to stay in the box as a spare I am more patient than usual.

I'm going to keep the returned card any way. If anything this has taught me that I need a spare kicking around.

I'm just gutted because I found that some guy has basically redone every last texture in Fallout 3 and another one has added weather (irradiated T-storms and snow ETC) and so I had gotten right back into that. Problem is it just crashes after an hour or two and if you have just spent 40 mins wandering around outside it doesn't save.

So there's no point in trying to continue :(

I'm definitely going to need the 7970 that's for sure. Making Fallout 3 look better than Crysis 2 DX11 has come at a huge cost - it devours GPU power and VRAM. When the thunderstorms come and the lightning flashes things get stuttery.

Appears to be the 'Twin Frozr III' model you get from OCUK, which is the same as Lightning but with little to no testing by MSI, I believe, which makes sense considering the issues people are getting.

If you get a good one or you're able to pinpoint and fix the issue, it's a very good card.
