Warmasice: I flashed my bios to get the lighting card stock speed, then I did a manual overclock, try to get it over 1ghz, but I cant, so 981mhz is the best that I can do with no volts increase. temps 35c idle, 60/65c full load.

Hi there,
Was on a standed bios, no flash or anything.... what over bios could i have used? I only set these clocks to do a bench for fun (just wanted to see if my card would go that high). I game @ 980/1480, max volts (1295) using Sapphire Trixx. Cheers

Quick update on mine....
I had loads of problems with my card getting around 90-100oC sometimes a little over in msi kombuster. After refitting the cooler as it wasn't on properly the card maxed out at mid 90's under full load. Well i ordered some artic cooling mx-4 paste as the card was a mess with the original paste (over the chip and the components near it) after a good 30 minutes or so of delicatly cleaning the old paste off with cotton buds i applied my new thermal paste and now running kombuster the card hits 68oC for a few seconds and then went down to around 65oC under 100% gpu load. The fans were only running around 40% whereas before they were at 100%.
Must say i'm quite impressed how putting some decent paste on the card has made such a differernce. My only guess on how the card got so messy was with the cooler being wobbly when i got it which has probs moved the paste about.
When i tried the lightning bios the card worked for the most past but crashed in gaming. I'm just about to reboot with the lightning bios and just see if it was a heating issue.

Crysis locks up the card on the stock Lightning bios. I found that out last night.
I switched back to the normal 880 one.
I also had the card switch Windows to basic (no aero) and then shoot to 58c idle. Fans went mad.
Reboot seems to have fixed it for now, but any more issues and I'll RMA it.

fans went mad @ 58C? mines idleing around 52c and fans ar spinning at 1375rpm (42% according to Afterburner)

Mine just reached 103c in Furmark and that's at 75% fan speed.
Time to reapply paste & reseat the cooler, I have the paste that came with Corsair A50 CPU cooler and Artic Silver 5, which should I use?
I'm currently running 940/1375 @ 1.2v with stock bios.

Probably loose cooler? It's been like that ever since I took it out of the box for the first time, air flow isn't an issue, I have a 200mm front fan taking in cool air and a 200mm top fan and 120mm rear fan both exhausting.
It's not that bad when gaming, it reaches 75c~ but that's still high, compared to the reviews I've read.

Well I have a profile, but it was just totally irrational.
Windows dropped to basic and temps soared. Wouldn't have minded but I was just sitting at MSN minding my own business
If it does it again I will RMA it. I'm not repasting it or taking it apart, that was MSI's job. If they couldn't get that right they can have it back.
Mine was reaching similar, i'd take it back and let OCUK deal with it, i have voided warranty by reseating mine which is not a massive issue as i'll be watercooling it which will have voided it anyways.

Wonder if they have similar problems on the lightning cards? i mean how much testing do they really do on them.
No idea. Doesn't matter now though. I found a XFX 7970 for £439 delivered so I ordered that. Mate is buying the Lightning off me

Oh right...
. Im not using a Lightning, im using Sapphire's (1x duel fan/bios & the other is single fan both @ 980/1480) overclocking with Trixx or AB, but i prefer Trixx.It looks bog standard but it isn't. It uses their Hydrocell cooler and ghost PCB.
It's not the dual fan one, it's the one with the standard shroud over it (has a brushed alu decal) but everything under it is their own.
They clock well too apparently, easy 1ghz.

Alright guys I signed up because I wanted to share my experience with this card.
I got mine and all is good.
without flashing the bios I just put mine straight to performance mode (the middle switch) and on stock volts and everything it overclocks to 965 (exactly the same as an actual lightning on another eview) on the core completely stable.
Only problem i have had is that in Crysis the game will crash after playing for like 10 minutes, it will freeze then the screen will go black with fuzzy on the bottom half then crash to desktop with the driver had to restart.
Ive tried the silent bios at stock clocks and its the same.... Ive never played Crysis before and I really want to play it but cant so any advice would be appreciated. Im running the latest drivers and had the ones before that too and is a clean install, cheers.
Very good temps, while playing BF3 the card maxes out at 66 degrees and thats in a warm room with an ambient temp at about 30, at idle the card is about 33 degrees.
Really happy with this card it seems I just got a lightning.... overclocks exactly the same as the actual lightening reviews at the same temps so its all good. Im not goingto to bother flashing the bios because its all good for me, but thankyou to whoever found it because I may in the future if I get another card for CF.

Really annoying me.... only just got my first gaming PC and new to pc gaming and Ive been looking forward to playing this but cant
I was able to play it for about 20 mins yesterday but as soon as I got into some action for a few mins it crashed. BF3 and all other games play fine, apart from the new Serious Sam... that crashes aswell but I reckon its just to do with the game
