OCUK 6970 TFIII (Lightning) review.

Personally i wouldn't bother buying one, worst mistake i have made for sometime. Given the amount of faulty ones and the hassle of trying to get them refunded /exchanged. Spend the extra and get the fully tested official lightening card or get something else.
OCUK advise due to me reseating the cooler i have voided warranty and am therefore left with a useless GPU that's cost a lot.

Is the XFI a PCIE? if so what's wrong with the empty slot at the bottom?

The Lightning is a dual slot card dude. So it should have no issues going in where the card is now (if it's PCI).

XFI is standard PCI mate. From what I've read though it's wider than a standard 5870 by about 20mm or so which is why I'm questioning myself whether it'll fit or not!

31cm long, 15 cm tall and 6cm thick is what it measures.

27.9cm X 11cm X 3.8cm is what the 5870 measures. I'm guessing a 6970 will fit fine in my case (600T) it's just the spacing between the fans and my soundcard that I'm skeptical about! :(

Guess I'll just wait for the new series of cards to come out and get one then, hopefully upgrade my i7 by then too. :)

Well I got my today for my new rig:

tested it on my current rig everything looks fine temps 25-30 idle and 60 full load on Kombuster have not yet overclocked it, will do soon, hopefully temps wont go by much

Coolermaster HAF-X which is a good case for cooling I think. Now I'm even thinking of getting a other one, don't no in 2 minds at the mo

TBH the worst mistake you made was taking apart something and voiding the warranty. You should've just sent it back, man.

I had issues with my GTX 470 once. It was idling in the 60s. I emailed POV and asked them if I should try repasting it or, just sending it back. They said hey, repaste it. I kept the email and repasted it, no good.

Turns out it was the dual monitor problem, but I made sure I had permission before taking the card apart.

It's common sense that you would lose your warrant by taking it appart. I'm pretty sure its in the terms and conditions too.

I've ordered a system from ocuk with this card. The case is an antec 300, will this definitely fit? I asked the guy over the phone and he said yeah, just wanted to make sure.

I think it's been covered. It does fit, but you need to remove something?

Read over the thread, I'm sure a couple of 300 owners got them.

Well i don't see why it's voided the warranty, the cooler was not on properly to start with, there are no notes saying it cannot be done and i cannot see anything in the manual or on their website advising otherwise. (also adding to the fact that i have clearly not damaged it in anyway)
I'm yet to get dirt 3 either despite them *sending* it before xmas. I'll be taking this up with the credit card company as OCUK seem to fail somewhat when it comes to customer service.
(their forums good though)

It's quite clear in their terms:

8. Warranty

8.2 This warranty does not apply to any defect in the goods arising from fair wear and tear, wilful damage, accident, negligence by you or any third party, use otherwise than as recommended by the Supplier, failure to follow the Supplier's instructions, or any alteration or repair carried out without the Supplier's approval.

Hence why i returned it without messing around with it.

Not tried yet , mine idles at 50 degrees worth so far only hits 71 top in battlefield 1080p ultra all exept AA in custom mode , decent frames 40- high 80"s , Seems we all getting different results .
Conclusions to make unsure , since my 560ti 2gb phantom idles below 40 , and same BF3 reaches 74-78 but with 6970 I think slightly higher frames but a bit smoother .
Swings and roundabouts ?

Again this does not apply as it has not been repaired or altered in anyway, the card is still the same and i have not changed anything.

Surely there is no way to tell that it has been re-seated anyway? I don't see the problem, I can quite easily see how the cooler could get knocked out of position during delivery, it was something I immediately thought of when I got my card out of the box, but it seems to be fine. I can't see any anti tamper stickers on my card and if you're careful you'll probably do a far better job than the factory anyway.

Have the temperatures of your card improved much? Also does anyone know whether there is usually much variance in the heat produced by different chips?
