OCUK and paypal

Yep PayPal are only used by small time sellers (like on ebay), who can't afford (or whose low sales don't warrant paying for) a proper merchant account.

Not necessarily - not every adult can get a debit card, even if they have a bank account. It depends on things like their credit worthiness.

By the sounds of it though, the OP just doesn't want one, which would be a bit foolish in my opinion.

Incidentally I also am unaware of any proper company taking PayPal payments.

not really, doesnt matter at all, DEBIT cards just allow you to spend whats in your account and no more, im not even 18 and i have 1

edit: i know a few companys that i cant list take paypal nd ive bought from them before... allough not with paypal ;)

Trust me, plenty of adults cannot get a debit card. This subject comes up a lot, and there's always people who refuse to believe it...

Professional grown up companys dont use PayPal to take payments.

I could give an example but they're a direct competitor of OcUK.

They're certainly not any less "professional" as other companies either

plenty of adults can't but kids can??? how does that work??

I use two other companys and pay using paypal. Its convenient for me because of the way the process works. I've just avoided credit cards up till now because I've got by without but to be fair, I should try and get myself one at 23 as somebody else mentioned about credit history/scoring being something required for my future.

Just to confirm, I am 23 and i dont go blasting my dad's card taking advantage etc. That is definately not the case. I recently asked to borrow the old mans card for one instance and that was that. In all honestly I've started a stupid thread and at the end of the day its not going anywhere.

I am with nationwide and have a cashcard/flexaccount and have tried in the past for a debit card with my flexaccount which many have, that was rejected. Earlier today I tried for a C/card and have according to the online app I've been accepted through N/wide, which is further than i got last time I tried. I believe this is down to blacklisting on the house and that has just recently been cleared.

P/takes are more than welcome, afterall it was a naff Thread.

If the fees are less, why dont theyn just use paypal then ? Or at least offer it as an alternative, if it gets them more potential customers AND lowers their costs?

Because PayPal is probably only "cheaper" if the turnover is very low.
It's probably much more expensive once you have the capability to have card payments (don't they have a flat monthly fee + small percentage*), especially as with Paypal you are wide open to fraud, which removes any potential cost savings if a single transaction PP decides is fraudulent costs you £££'s.

*Which makes card payments expensive if you have low turnover, but rapidly becomes cheaper the more you use it (unlike PP).
