*****OcUK Benchmark Results from ATI HD 69xx Series*****

smileypopcorneating.gif

This is a thread about 69xx cards m8.

In regards to getting discounts on shipping or an order you need to ring sales in operational hours and have a word with those guys. :)

Will they all be on the website? - So I can see the price difference between them?
If I order one that is getting delivered tomorrow will it still get shipped tomorrow?

All be on website after midnight. Any order you place before 5pm tomorrow will go out that same day on next day courier for sure as long as its in stock, hence HIS is the safe bet as in stock now.

AMD haven't sanctioned anything, people since the 580gtx are only concerned with uniengine, which is a shame as it means literally nothing.

As for lack of improvements, the only game benchmarks we've seen flying around suggest an average of 25% faster than the 570gtx, thats not exactly anything to complain about.

People also seem to be forgetting, as I've said for a LONG LONG time, huge improvement, 80%+ on the same process wasn't going to happen.

40% would be pretty damn good, more would be astonishing. The 5870 is up to 20% slower then the 480gtx, the 580gtx is 20% faster than the 480gtx, if the 6970 offers 580gtx performance(or maybe even higher) then its come a LOT further than the 580gtx came to get there. The VAST majority of the Nvidia performance came from improved/full yield parts. Being that AMD had full yield parts already, thats 10-15% performance that just wasn't available and there for the taking as it was for Nvidia.

Its a shame Gibbo didn't bench any games, because uniengine/3dmark performance means smeg all right now, games I can play in performance means everything. It could be 30% slower or 30% faster than a 580gtx and STILL GET THE SAME UNIENGINE SCORE.

The £220/275 pricing is VERY clever, by AMD, the price on the 5870/5850 were TOO far apart, meaning very very few people went for the much higher profit 5870, reducing this gap means more people get the more expensive card, likewise overally they seem great because the top card is down £25 on last gen, but the bottom card is the real volume card of the two and £20 more means more profit.

Gibbo, did you actually pay a lot more for the cards and get rebates, or was it ordered, but not paid for the cards yet and you've suddenly been handed a much lower bill to pay for the cards?

My guess is AMD leaked pricing and let the real prices get out so Nvidia didn't tank their pricing before AMD could launch, if Nvidia found out the real pricing a couple weeks ago Nvidia could tank their pricing prelaunch and make AMD appear "normal" value, while AMD giving out fake high pricing means Nvidia don't react, and now will tank pricing AFTER launch, which will only be reported as reacting to better value cards from AMD, which looks good for AMD.

In other words, yet another part of the master secrecy/disinformation plan from AMD? If so, genius.

HI mate

I don't bench games as we don't have any plus I do this whilst working, I am not a reviewer all I wanted to do was run some benchmarks and give you guys a bit of a heads up. I've made it very clear, wait for official reviews and do not making a buying decision based on this review.

In regards to pricing, AMD made a price move on 69xx series Monday. :)

I love how the NDA has basically been thrown out as OcUK's biggest competitor has put the 6950 and 6970 up on their site. By the looks of it XFX are their main supplier as they are the prices OcUK are charging.

And Gibbo can rest easy as they aint showing any stock, and if they have stock for tomorrow remains to be seen...

You can also buy a 6970 in a metal case ala the Ares!

NOW LIVE ON OcUK AND WERE IN STOCK AND CHEAPER! :D

Guys im looking at the HIS 6970 - are they a reputable brand for reliability - and Gibbo is the warranty for 2 years with yourselves?

They are Tier1 partner, very large company and been around for years. 2yr warranty with them and us. :)

Thanks dude - its the same price i paid for my 8800gtx i got 3 yrs back! coincidence! im assuming all the cards are much of a muchness, i.e they will be identical with same colours - just different stickers etc

Sorry Gibbo - one last question - do all of them have a pci-e 6-8pin converter in the box?

Yes the HIS come with the power converters so old PSU's work fine, they also include DVI dongle and Crossfire bridge. :)

To all non OCUK staff - is an HIS reference card any better than an XFX reference card? Presumably they're all the same in terms of build, fan etc, but are there any other differences (software or warranty)?

I am staff!

However I am sure all will agree with me, they are all identical and have all come out the same factory. XFX and HIS both offer 2yr warranty.

Some people will bash XFX a bit because they can be hard to deal with for RMAs. Though OcUK looks after both HIS and XFX for the 2yr period so that should not really be of matter.

Would it be worth me upgrading from a 5870 to a 6970, What kind of performance gain would i see?

Finger is hovering!!!!

Wait for reviews. :)

Its faster than a 5870, but by how much depends on the game, so wait for those reviews, don't worry were not gonna run out. :)

Need to see Eyefinity results before I even consider buying 2 x 6970 .... ! Basket looking good though, just gotta resist pulling that trigger till I know for sure! What about 3 x 6950 :D

Does a Rampage II support Tri Crossfire?

If so I might try throwing three in my test rig tomorrow. :D
