*****OcUK Benchmark Results from ATI HD 69xx Series*****

I don't get what your point is.... A 6870 is only 20% slower than a 570GTX too, so should we all just buy 6870's or what?

What do you want anybody to say?

A 6970 is a touch faster than a 570, and that is on immature drivers for new tech on the AMD card whereas nvidias drivers will be will developed as Nvidia didn't change much, if anything for their refresh.

Cayman is completely different to AMDs other gpus, and it was only taped out last May, so their driver team should be able to move it along nicely once they get their head around it. Don't ask me how I know, it's just a hunch, but its happened this way for every new chip in the past, so I just don't expect this to be any different.

yea my motherboard has had 10 different bios during the 2 years I owned it.
the same happens with cards, drivers takes time,
its 5 OS to support, a few games, and running everything and writing takes time and a lot of it.

I look forward my new shiny 6950´s ;)

i might be missing the point but 2.72 TFLOPS and 2GB of 5,000 MHZ memory doesnt mean **** when your playing a console port coded to run on something no faster than an 8600gs

newer and faster graphics cards aren't speeding up new releases or improving pc games in a hurry

Somthing I've been saying for a while which makes all these kids arguing like muppets all the more funny.

Wasn't this increase in performance kind of expected anyway? From what I recall, the 6000 series (northern islands) is mostly just a refresh, using tech from what will become the proper next generation of radeon, namely the southern islands gpus?

Yep, I'm pretty sure just a few short months ago people were talking about the 6000 series as being an 'evolution rather than revolution' in terms of performance..

Coming from a GTX 280 in an AMD based system, getting a cheap and cheerful 6950 is looking like a potential winner tbh.. with a view to getting another some point down the line when I can afford it. I think with just the single card I'd probably notice a difference plus there's the addition of the DX11 whistles and bells too.

They've made big changes from the back to front of a chip. It's a much more in-depth refresh than the 570 was.

everyone says that drivers really help cards, which i am sure they do but how much?

does anyone have benches, of lets saya 512mb 4870 at launch vs lates bech, or 5770 bench ( as that was when they were replaced) with the same setup, abar different drivers, so we can see the difference?

not doubting that the drivers help, just would like to see some proof.

People always say with any new release hopefully the drivers will add more but with the 69x0 series I think it's more likely given the significant change in architecture to VLIW4.

Here's hoping anyway.

My home rig has 2x460 1GB's in sli and I feel I need more power sometimes, especially when running 3d.

So uhm yeah, join the discussion when you've got something to say, not just waffle.

here's a quick look a the 5800's driver improvements, although I expect much more from the 6900 cards as the architecture is completely different than anything before it.
