OCUK - Best Game of the Year / Worst Game of the Year

My Idea of GOTY is very unlikely to be shared by many because not many people like Flight Sims. Maybe it would be better to have Genres to pick from?

Fair enough! He may want reasons but he didn't explicity request them in the OP which is why some people haven't provided them. I will edit my response accordingly.

I don't think I could give game of the year to any large release title. There is nothing new in any of these games, as they are usually just built on ideas from previous games.

My GOTY would have to be Frozen Synapse, because it is such a fresh idea for a strategy.

Worst game of the year I would give to Red Faction Armageddon, which is a shame because I really enjoyed Guerilla for it's sandbox style. Armageddon has turned the game into just another a corridor shooter.

This conclusion is based on games I have actually played this year, I am sure there are worse than Armageddon, however I thought it was the most disappointing, closely followed by Stronghold 3 which I played very briefly.

I'm going to be completely unoriginal (can't help it if I have the same opinion :D) and say Skyrim has been the best so far.

Worst BY FAR is Duke Nukem Forever. Played it for about an hour or two and never touched it again. Load of crap. Also agree with the CoD comments. Haven't bought MW3 and won't out of spite. Did the same with Black Ops. It's just regurgitated rubbish - same crap over and over again. Love MW and was quite keen on MW1, and they were similiar enough.

Best GOTY - Skyrim - Best game i've played all year although that'll probably change once SWTOR comes out.

Worst GOTY - Red Orchestra 2 - It sucked so much compared to RO1.

Skyrim best obviously.

Worst? Not sure - I didn't buy pre order anything this year. From what others have said it would probably be duke nukem.

Batman, Skyrim, Portal 2 and Battlefield 3 have all been very enjoyable games so far this year :)

There is only on Football Manager 2012 though ;)

Worst, I'd probably give it to the new Call of Duty game, I thought it was terrible, I did the single player in 3/4 hours, thought the multiplayer was considerably worse then Black Ops and took it back.

GOTY: Portal 2. It's very close to being my favourite game ever made.

Other than Portal 2, it was still an awesome gaming year, perhaps the best ever. Any of my other candidates could win most other years: Deus Ex: HR, Skyrim, Arkham City, Battlefield 3. Add to that some great games like (and some might argue some of these) Rage, Crysis 2, Shogun 2, Dead Island, L.A. Noire, Saints Row The Third and a handful of indies like Trine 2, The Binding of Isaac, Terraria, Minecraft, Orcs Must Die, Bastion, From Dust, Dungeon Defenders and as I said, it's probably the best gaming year I've seen.

I generally don't buy crappy games and I don't understand people who do so I prefer calling the worst game of the year the most disappointing game of the year and this year there's only one answer: Dragon Age 2. I tried to be prepared for it after seeing the trailers and the direction they were heading but I still wasn't ready for the ungodly amount of recycled content and enemies spawning out of thin air. The game had few good things going for it but there's no way around it, it's a huge disappointment and probably ruined the franchise already.

BEST: Batman Arkham City - After playing Arkham Asylum and getting sucked in, I knew the dev's could only really improve on what was one of the most amazing single player experiences you can buy! Arkham City lived up to and exceeded my expectations :)

WORST: Brink - The game was just damn right awful :(

Best: Rift (though I don't play it anymore) or Dungeon Defenders (surprisingly amount of very good content)
Worst: Skyrim (so much hype, didn't like it at all, very boring)
