OcUK competitor rant

I wont mentioned names.
Twice now I've ordered from a certain website where an item has shown as being in stock, for next day delivery. Great, I order
I receive am email with the order status and 'Estimated Delivery Date' of next day, payment comes out and all is good.
Then I check the order the next day and it's still 'awaiting picking' on the day of delivery (when I've made arrangements to be a home)
Call said competitor, on hold for 10 minutes to be told its not in stock.

Anyone experienced similar with OcUK competitors? Never had this issue with OcUK

I can only think its an archaic stock system where it takes an age to update stock levels. Though more likely to leave items showing as 'in stock' to get orders through the door, even if they are not really in stock.

sorry but this is a very common problem everywhere, ocuk emailed just last week after i ordered to say something was not in stock even though the website said it was when i ordered and paid.

This is a big complaint of mine when ordering online, especially as the return of funds usually takes more than a couple of days. It's just inherent for busy online stores I guess, not just within the PC industry either. Best thing to do is get onto the store and order over the phone, old school.

The big rainforest store never seems to have this problem. I order something with 'delivery membership' and it almost always turns up when its supposed to. Be it the same day at 11pm or the next day
If not, I ring and say I pay a premium for deliveries to be on time and they give me a free month (or free 3 months) of delivery membership if it's not

Do any other companies offer premium delivery services and/or correct stock information?

The only time I ever order from a competitor is when OCuk just doesn't carry the item I want like Trident DDR5. I always feel dirty when I have to though and it's usually when something ends up delayed or wrong etc.

I've only ever had good experiences here, even when they've gotten something wrong. Overclockers have always gone above and beyond to make things right.

I noted one competitor (well not so much in recent years) stopped selling components now only pre built systems, they used to have a half decent forum as well.

Shame, but their service went downhill and they 'upgraded" their forums which ruined them completely to the point they were unusable, yet they would never admit it, good way to treat your community right?

I think I know which competitor you may mean... I bought a CPU from a company a few years ago and it was stuck on "awaiting picking" for days with no contact.

I rang them and they said they block first purchases on new accounts to prevent fraud...

Had that once with a computer components retailer - they wanted me to do a bunch of phone "tests" which included stuff which was a privacy concern IMO to "prevent fraud" - I just laughed and went somewhere else, though sadly had to find an alternative product.

Same with my 5800X. Awaiting picking for a week?! …then it updated to in a waiting list! I was fuming. Should have learnt my lesson really

I know the competitor, I remember maybe 20 years ago them being great. But, there was a long slow decline. I remember them cancelling an order, so I found ocuk and never looked back.

Very true. Literally sat here right now wondering why I never got a shipping email from OCUK whilst I have a tracking number for a parcel from a competitor. Both ordered this morning today.

Suspect I won’t be building my pc tomorrow!

These things happen I guess, very disappointing though.I’m hopeful that OCUK will simply tell me my parcel is on the way tomorrow but I also wonder if perhaps a part I’ve ordered is in fact not in stock.

Usually wouldn’t be so bothered but we’ve literally had people in balaclavas break into our flat complex two days in a row for parcels. Anxious I have to be in when this parcel arrives!

Ordered a monitor from ocuk yesterday morning at 7am with the free next day delivery. Still not had a dispatch email... Usually good but everywhere slips up from time to time.
