OcUK Dadsnet thread

I can relate to this our eldest missed out on her 11+ by 3 points and due to being oversubscribed she lost the appeal too. Ironically her sats were far better than most of her friends who passed. In our area the gulf between the grammar/high schools and normal schools is massive. Luckily I have just been promoted and looking to relocate near to Lincoln where the schools in general are far far better.
There is the problem with selective education! So glad we have none of that 11+ nonsense where I live so it is one less stress in the admissions system!

Got a 1 year old. Loving it so far. But I was a bit miffed when i realised kids start school at 5 in Scotland! For some reason I thought it was 3/4. 5 years, which is, like, 1/4 of the sentence.

At 4 years old, my daughter has finally decided its more fun to swing herself than to be pushed, and I can finally join the ranks of parents sitting on a bench at the park while she gets stuck in to everything.

Started big school, and despite some fierce showdowns over uniform on days 1 and 2, awe are now smooth sailing there too. Things are looking good!

That sounds so nice! My 30 month old charges round like a nutter, can't wait until I can leave him to it completely.

School, is that some sort of free nursery that they go to 5 days a week?

Depending on the birth date then some kids go when they're almost 5. Mine started today and he's 5 in 2 weeks.

Yeah, we have been waiting for this day for a long time. Thanks to covid my wife still had to cut her hours though as no before/after school clubs, so not as much of a saving as we'd hoped, but still a new exciting time.

I thought in August you could hold them back a year?

I don't know if it's changed but my son was born on the 27th August and we didn't have that option. The difference matters less as they get older though - we dropped him off at university today so he's not done too bad :) (though me and my wife are moping around not knowing what to do without him!)

One of my daughter's school friends had her 7th birthday 3 weeks ago but she's in year 2 so that's why I asked. Personally I'd send them at the earliest point as nursery is expensive:D.

Happy Birthday, mini-NVP.

We had a few scares, and my wife held on to the pair of them so long it nearly broke her, but they're amazing - and I'm pleased your little lads are doing well!

How's life treating you now squire? I remember you posting you were coming home with twins. I shuddered as I remembered doing that myself with my two, back in the day :D

Well, I’ve sort of joined the ranks of the Dadsnet I suppose. My wife had our daughter, Anna on the 24th August via c-section.

Unfortunately I wasn’t there for it, and I’m probably not going to meet her for another few weeks yet, as I’m in the merchant navy, and have been stuck on a vessel thanks to my employer sending me to a part of the world that’s closed to crew changes, thanks to Coronavirus.

So, looking forward to getting home and meeting her, just dreading the 1st nappy!

Breast fed or bottle fed? Makes an enormous difference to the aroma!

It's honestly not a thing to worry about. Within about 24 hours you'll have done it 10 times, fed them, changed them, picked them up and put them down loads. It's human nature and you pick it up very quickly.

Does it, how so? Our 6 week old is only on formula as he just wouldn't latch on despite weeks of trying. I really don't find the aroma bad at all, almost a sweet-smelling sort of scent.

Formula usually smells a lot worse, I guess it depends on the formula. I don't think any of it is as bad as solids though.

It's the noise that made me laugh, (although I still find loud farts funny as I'm childish:D). I thought gorilla fed smelt less (ours were both breastfed so I can't compare), I do remember thinking it must come out with some force as it always seemed to all the way up their back.

Where did you get the trained gorillas???

Wife worked with babies in a nursery, she could tell which were breast, which formula and who was starting solids.

And yes, they do manage to spread it everywhere sometimes! For our son when very young with the softer/runny poo they have, we found the nappies with the internal netting really seemed to help stop to much smearing.

Very well, thank you. They've just hit 15 months and I couldn't be prouder of them. Topping their centiles, happy, sleep well, walking, talking, it's brilliant :)
