OcUK Dadsnet thread

If you weren't just a stranger from over the internet I'd show you some photos of mine literally asleep on my computer desk whilst I watched YouTube videos; similarly I completed every season of Trailer Park Boys whilst she slept on the pouffe.

Once she hit 3/4 months we got serious with trying to build a routine and that involves 'Alexa, open brown noise' which is just a normal white noise loop. We keep the noise down as much as possible but it certainly travels in our old house and she stays asleep.
Tbh I thought brown noise meant something else:p.

Our little bundle of joy can sleep through Krakatoa exploding, when she sleeps...she sleeps, then again we try not to be mega quiet around her when sleeping.

Problem is waking her up for feeding, jebus wept it's hard work!

Went looking at our first Primary school for George last week. Only got one other to look at but the first felt like a good fit for him.
How time flies.

I'll be registering mine under my dad's address. Primary school wise his area is better (he's literally 5 minutes away from me) but high school wise our area is 3 places better supposedly. Both in the top 20 out of 600-700 in the country.

Well done on potentially blocking a child who actually lives in the correct catchment area from gaining a place at the school.

lol no prizes for putting someone elses kids wellbeing above yours. GG on being altruistic at the potential expense of your own child.

Thanks. Any parent should be proud to do the same.

They normally check against where the child benefit is paid. My wifes part of the admissions team at our primary school and confirmed this is checked in our area.

But I agree as a parent you want the best for your children, it's a hard call. You could risk missing your catchment area school totally and end up at the bottom of the list.

I'll be getting everything put under the wife's name and getting her to move everything over to my dad's property. It's 5 mins away so collecting mail from there won't be an issue. He goes to the gym beside my house as it is.

I know people who have done this before and I know folk who got caught so won't make the mistakes they did.

I'd argue that there's plenty of prizes to be had if we all put less emphasis on school rankings and thereby furthering the problem but that's probably for another thread.

I'd love to know how much worse the primary schools are in Sonny's area compared to his dad for there to be a need to forge documents in order to get his kid in a school outside of the catchment area.

We get which ever we pick anyway. But not really considering Ofsted rating, more important things to consider. Its almost as if some people only base their decision on it, which is odd IMO.

Hard disagree. Defrauding the system to wedge your child into a school that by some objective metric is higher on the ranking system isn't something to be proud of at all. There are more than enough ways to do the best for our kids in honest and ethical ways, that there is really no need to go clambering over others and pushing other people out of the way to get 'the best' for them. I imagine you wouldn't go and steal other kids toys (or educational materials to pick a more analogous example) for your own, so you can't just hide behind the mantra of doing the best for your kids as anyone else would.

Just curious but by what metric is this school in the top 20. Top 20 of what?

Looking on our portal schools just get a grading the one we looked at shows as "Average". But when we visited the children looked so happy and it wasn't overly crowded, its got lots extra going on that isn't even reflected by the portal.
Next school were looking at is "Exceptional" but its the other side of the river so although distance wise close, its a long drive to it compared to walking.
3rd and last school is a special school which is graded "Average" but has so much extra stuff suitable for George, even a hydro therapy pool and onsite physio team.

Key things we're looking for are happy, calm environments, enthusiastic staff, lots of green outdoor space, small.

The top 20 comments was in regards to high schools. Our one ranks 3 higheriirc. The ranks are based on average grades received of all graduating students.

I actually just checked and both are in the top 15 actually. With one in the top 10.

So if I moved into my dad's house and registered him it would be fine then? Because that is an option available. He has a very large home in a very affluent area. Plenty of space for us and I opted to move out and the door is always open for me.

So I'm not doing anything wrong at all.

So that's all you care about, grades? Plus that reading is only in effect for the year it's given really anything could change after its given.
