OcUK Dadsnet thread

My first has slept through the night since she was 2 months old, and 18 months later she still sleeps through the night with a mouth full of teeth. She's never slept in our room which helped a lot.
I'm officially jealous. My girl wakes up and comes in to us every bloody night. Sometimes it's like 530, which isn't so bad, sometimes it's 130. I've just accepted that I'm permanently knackered. Can't blame teething anymore either.

Can't be mad at this face though. She's such a sense of humour

Getting married on Sat and have resigned myself to the fact that her white dress, white shoes, white cardigan will be single use. She's gonna look really cute for those 10 mins it's clean though.

She woke you just didn't hear her then:D. Wait till they're a bit older (my daughter is 4.5) and sometimes she just appears in bed, i swear shes a ninja sometimes lol.

^We found that most stains do come out but try and avoid white things for that reason. I'm not sure we've actually taken the kids to any weddings yet.

Edit: While i remember, took the kids to diggerland at the weekend. Was very good fun, the kids enjoyed it too, but really they need to be 3+ to go on most things (but the website is pretty good).

We didn't run to her for every gurgle, only when she cried. I think kids sleeping in the same room as the parents results in them waking up and the kid getting attention every time they make a fuss, so it takes longer for them to sleep through the night.

Conversely, babies (i.e. < 6 months) sharing a room with their parents has been proven to dramatically reduce the risk of SIDS (cot death), so you pick your battles really.

I can't find any scientific studies on that, and my doctors said it was rubbish when I asked them about it.

An empty cot, temperature (not too hot), the baby sleeping on their back and having a large baby are the only things I can find proper scientific research on making a difference.

Then your doctor was woefully uninformed. There have been numerous scientific studies conducted and the advice in all western countries is room sharing until they are 6 months old. Article here with several studies linked

https://www.isisonline.org.uk/hcp/where_babies_sleep/room-sharing/

One study even concluded that 36% of SIDS deaths could be prevented by using room sharing at sleep times.

Anyone got any car-seat experience? Apart from them being bloody expensive, will be needing to change ours soon as they'll have outgrown the current seat. Maxi-Cosi is what i've used so far but i feel like i'm paying for the name, are Joie any good? Almost £100 cheaper and can be harnessed in for longer which appeals. It's a bloody minefield and any shop i've been into has been like circling sharks seeing ££ signs!

Wait till they hit backed booster age, much cheaper and smaller overall seats. I've got a Maxi Codi Rodi fit my sun and it's fine (cost comes out in the wash when you think it will last 3 years+).

We have the joie elevate and it's great. The little cup holder has been a godsend as well (since she started using it anyway). Easy to fit (imo anyway, my missus can't seem to figure it out) and easy to adjust on the fly. The linings all come out so you can clean them. Chances are it'll still be really gross and need replacing before she out grows it.

What size do you need?

I highly recommend the Concord Reverso Plus. Rear-facing are by far the safest until they grow out (105cm or around 18-20kg) and this one is light and easy to remove, but don't expect much front passenger legroom!

BeSafe also make some excellent rear-facing seats, but they don't come cheap!

Which.co.uk has good reviews, and ADAC has a very comprehensive testing (but it's in German).

-edit: you don't pay for the name. You pay for the safety of your child.

Definitely. It was the advice we were given from the hospital that he should sleep in our room until 6 months.
He's just the last two days started spending time in his cot in his room, see how that goes.

Hang in there...

2 kids 12 and 11 years old. Youngest can make tea and grind/espresso coffee. Eldest can do same plus make a decent bacon sandwich.

Weekend mornings are now a pleasure.

It DOES get easier :-)

I'm not sure thats necessarily true. In my experience you're sometimes paying more for the name, but a lot of the time it extra features. Just having a quick look on goodle, i-size seats are very expensive (although i suppose its 2 seats in one).

But generally the bigger brands have more money to spend on R&D and thus can be safer. Obviously this isn't always the case, however.

We have the same one and I cannot fault it. Was on sale when we got it too. Will be buying a 2nd one for the mrs car.
