OcUK Dadsnet thread

due to circumstances outside of my control I am unable to be there until a few days later.
I'd like to see the joy on his face as he opens them first hand, is this selfish and unreasonable ?

last year he wouldn't open his own presents so his older sister did it and he didn't seem to get they were for him, I guess this is the first year where he will open them by himself and get what it is to some extent.
Yea I found that when my kids were 1, my sons 2nd birthday is in a couple of weeks and I assume he will obliterate the wrapping while making as much confetti as possible lol.

First time I've ventured into this thread.

I have a 22mth old daughter and a 2nd child (sex unknown at this time) due in late February. Fairly later starter with kids (I'm now 37) as myself and my partner were told long ago that it wasn't a possibility for us so to have one was a miracle for us and now to find out No2 is on the way.

Upto now our daughter has been an absolute breeze to bring up. Slept through from being 3 week old, pretty much weaned herself at 4 months and is picking up words & making sentences almost daily. I just hope the next one is as easy ....
I want to be happy for you, but the lack of sleep makes me hate you.

If it helps I've been up at 2-3am the last 2 nights with her having nightmares.
That's more like it.

I've begun to find sleep somewhat akin to how I felt about sex in my teens: I think about it all the time, I don't get anything like enough of it, and I would happily do it on a bus.

George is 6 months now, 5 months corrected. Started sleeping in the cot bed in his room.
Still wakes up about 1am for a bottle but we have to allow him to feed when ever he wants.
Started introducing food pouches loves carrot, parsnip based ones.
We have to get really creative with his food, egg yolks mixed in milk powder in everything. Olive oil, some really strange concoctions.

Sorry if I've missed an update, but how is he doing? From the above sounds as though everything going really well!

I've slept fairly well all the way through tbh but then again I have M.E so tired is a constant state for me.

Ah well in that case I don't begrudge you the sleep. You need it more than me! I must say it didn't feel that way when my daughter popped in at 430am today for a chat though

I think the earliest my daughter gets up is around 7am, she loves her sleep, to the point that normally she'll go to the bottom of the stairs around 7:30pm and says "night night" meaning she wants to go to bed.

I just hope No2, due in late Feb is as easy. Don't know the sex yet but we already have names, centred around my late father who died suddenly, 3 months before our daughter was born.

Alana Rae for a girl & Thomas Alan for a boy.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I hate you:p. I feel blessed when I can havey breakfast at 6 in the morning in peace and quiet.

Oh for a bit of a laugh, I recommend Confessions of a Learner Parent (currently £2 for kindle version on Amazon). I follow the dude on FB (scouse standup) and he's hilarious. It's a fairly accurate but hilarious account of the realities of fatherhood.

Still struggling with weight gain, he's under the 0.4th centile line averages about 100g a week.
Still maxes out at 120ml per bottle every 3 hours or so.

His left hand doesn't do a great deal at the minute still mostly clenched fist where the other hand he uses to grasp toys and stuff.
He's babbling so that's good, struggles to flip over when on his front.
So yeah some things are better than expected but he's still got a long way to go.

It's 8am and my 6year old and 3year old are still both fast asleep in bed :D The 10pm bedtime last night is probably helping with that though...
You bugger. Been up since 5. Daughter did an epic faceplant into the foot of her bed (wood) while jumping on it. Proper lump on her forehead today.

Spent last night and this morning building flat pack IKEA tv stand for the lounge and a new wardrobe for my 3yr old. Cuts n bruises everywhere but all built. Told him he had a nice new wardrobe, he took one look at it and cried. Gotta love kids hahha

On the sleep thing, my daughter slept through from around 3 months and wasnt waking up till 9 sometimes 10am...

since 9 months or so she wakes up at 7-8 but still not as rough as some of you lot :P

I remember one time I took the daughter to the pub to meet with some workmates while my wife was away .She was around 2 and in the phase of running around, went straight into the edge of a table. She had a right bump, but after a few minutes of being upset, she was back running round lol. Also, my daughter came through at 6.15 this morning after going to sleep at 9 last night. She's completely shattered though but doesn't like to have a lie in unfortunately (when they can talk properly, she tells me she's not tired which means that she is).

Does any one use cloth nappies?

Babies due in the next couple of weeks and I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons to using reusable nappies rather than disposable.
I was looking at getting some of the littles & bloomz as they are a cheap introduction into it all.
I understand they are going to be more work than a disposable and the cost savings aren't massive if any at all, it was more for the eco side of it.

Any one have any advice?
cheers.

Yeah that's how it works lol. "Riley are you tired?" "no daddy I not tired" "why are you yawning and rubbing your eyes then?"
