Haha, first couple of weeks are like that, invest in a white noise generator with a sensor. Best thing ever invented in the entire universe

Congrats to the expecting and new dads, it really is the best thing ever!

My youngest is now almost 16 months and is by and large the easiest of the three. She takes herself off to bed, no fussing when you tell her its bed time, eats and behaves well, a cheeky sod and food thief but an utter delight. She's even taken herself off breastfeeds!

If the missus tries to put the moves on me now im calling the police lol.

It's white noise... You can't be serious?
Hahaha good point, but I was looking at the baby sleeper machines that have ocean sounds and many other "soothing sounds" not just hshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
They also have a sensor so that they turn on if the baby makes noise and a night light.

I think ours is a "MyHummy" white noise machine. It's controlled by an app through your phone and you can also set it to auto sense when baby sleeps or stirs and it will automatically swith off/kick back in accordingly.

White noise production is fantastic for avoiding sudden wake ups from external noises.

Don't they get used to the noise though and then its difficult getting them to sleep without it.
George still sleeps in with us neither of us have the energy to put him in his own room yet, on the occasion we forget his meds he does sleep right through though and will happily sleep while the tv is on or vacuuming. The nurses told us not to be overly quiet just do everything normal otherwise they get used to the quiet.

The midwife told us this too, but my wife soon forgets all this and starts telling me to turn the tv down and talks quietly at me. Need to re educate her or the future will be bleak.

As for the white noise, I put on ocean sounds white noise baby sleep on youtube and me my wife and the baby (3 weeks old) slept like babies, he slept for 4 hours which is abnormal but well received! XD

What is this magical device?
edit* found out, ordering one immediately!!!!
No joke but my baby got to sleep through star trek engine humm noises from YouTube.

I dont know what made me try it but I never looked back on those really hard nights in the first year.

Just try anything/everything though because every child is gonna react differently of course.

I just got one of the Betron speakers off the rain forest, with a mini SD slot. Loaded a 10hr white noise track on the card and it just loops constantly. Battery lasts ages so it's mobile if you're travelling..

Used it with our daughter who is nearly 3 to great effect (she stopped using it at about 16 months) and now using it with our son to similar effect (he's 8 months)

This explains why listening to death metal when i was a teenager worked so well to send me to sleep, no joke

I just bought a 6 different noise one from amzon, it has the sensor and a night light, rechargable battery, awesome! thanks for the recommendations people!

FWiW with regards to volume, i've not turned the tv down when the kids are in bed and they've never woken up because its too loud, even when watching an action film. I do remember them waking up with creaky floorboards when they were young but fortunately they outgrew that.
