Yeah her heart rate had dropped, which it had been doing every contraction when coming back up at the end of the contraction. But this time it didn’t come back up for 3 minutes
Gainz. Congrats!Hey guys, you might remember my post 6 or so months back when we had the horrible scare at my first scan with a high measurement at the fold on the back of her neck. Thankfully all the tests since that scan came back fine and it was deemed a likely mis-measurement.
But today we welcomed our baby girl, Ivy in to the world at a healthy 8.6lb
She did give us one last scare. All sat talking to the midwives during labour (which was 12 hours in at the hospital), when all of a sudden one of them hit the emergency button and a load of people ran in, whisked my girlfriend away before anyone could explain and I was left in the delivery room in a mess beside myself with no idea what was happening. 5 minutes later I’m brought in to theatre and about a minute after that, our baby girl was delivered via emergency c-section and was absolutely fine.
My nerves were shot after that, I think i cried 33 years worth of tears in one afternoon, just couldn’t stop with so many emotions going on from before the birth and all the ones after. It was all a bit amusing in hindsight, I must have looked a state.
I suggested that to my wife 2 years back, she said "ok, but I need a wee first" and about 20 seconds later her waters broke lol.
Oooofff, that's horrible. Really terrifying. My son's heartbeat was going all over the place, dropping right down before shooting right up. All of a sudden it completely went, so after pointing it out a couple of times to the midwife - head midwife at the hospital - she said "oooooo, want to see something interesting?" and I think I mumbled "not really, would be great if you could figure out why the baby has no heartbeat..."
She moved me round to the front, opened my wife's legs so you could see my son's crown a few inches in... and tickled his head
heartbeat immediately returned!"Isn't that cool??" She chimed, and I honestly think I just turned to her and said "what the ****!?"

Congrats @Steedie, we had the same exact thing. Heart rate plummeting, cue midwives rolling my wife around like a rolling pin every now and then. Eventually the most chilled out surgeon rolled up and was like "ehhh, well the fybroid makes it a bit tricky, but I think we do a c section" like he was deciding whether to have extra cheese on his pizza. All nerve wracking as hell, while they chat about their weekend plans and cut holes in my wife lol.
Good luck on the parenting, I hate to tell you it's just as nerve wracking as the birth, as it's like having your heart outside your body.

We had the 13 week scan a couple of weeks ago and i can't tell you how that made me feel. Bit of a long-winded story but the nurse thought there was an underdeveloped fetus in there with the baby that could have been a twin. They called in the Dr on call and he just jammed the scanner into the belly and my wife almost ripped my hand off. And he got the most extraordinary picture. Turns out it was the scar tissue from the fibroid operation a few years back and everything was ok. At one point he was scanning everything and it was almost like an MRI, we could see inside the baby's brain and it was already fully developed and the skeletal structure of the back/ribs etc. Everything seemed already formed, it was mind-blowing.

We had our second last month. 12 years difference. Girl and boy now so got one of each to complete the set. It was a lot easier when I was younger (33 now). Have invested in ear plugs for sleeping when working the next day!
So, we're due on 6th November and classed as full term this Wednesday so I guess my boy can show up whenever he feels like it really. I'm sure this has been asked before but what do you pack, hospital wise for the man? We've got my partners bag packed and it's already in the car waiting but I will more than likely need a bag depending on how long we're in for.
Anything you can suggest which isn't so obvious but was a "lifesaver".

What do you guys do with old car seats. I would normally just get rid but my dad has this crazy idea about selling them. Any thoughts?
It's a waste of time selling them. You'll get perhaps £20 for it, and a bunch of time wasters. The "official" advice from groups like the NCT is to never buy second-hand anyway as you don't know whether the seat has already been in an accident.
If you know someone who has / is having kids, donate it to them.
Sold our last two on facebook groups for £30 and £20 in less than a day. One he'd grown out of and the second was for our second car, now we just swap the existing seat between cars dependent which we take.
They were fairly generic seats, no big labels.
We'll keep it in the loft for number 2. I understand that some people are dead set against buying second hand. What kind of parent would sell a seat that they know has been damaged in a crash I'm unsure but I'd like to think if someone did consider buying a second hand item from us, they'd meet us and consider us not to be scumbags. What's more, we'd be helping someone out less fortunate to afford the latest most snazzy car seat.
Not really a waste of time, like the previous poster I've sold 2 old car seats, got £40 each for them, both within 36hrs of putting them up.
Granted it's not owt near new but hey it was cash in my pocket for minimal effort.
Plus we bought brand name (Recaro) so if it helps someone less well-off afford something out of the normal range.
As for whether it'd been in a collision, simply it'd be binned.
