OcUK Dadsnet thread

It's never the right time. Young or old, rigch or poor. There is always a reason to worry but we all get through it. So you'll be fine.

I'm 44 and about to become a Dad for the first time

I'm now worried I'm going to be too old? Am I worrying unduly, or should I just get on with it like Mick Jagger does

One of my good friends is a 52 year old dad of a 2 year old and a 4 year girl. He's absolutely grand and is far more energetic than a lot of the self obsessed, lazy, 20something parents I know. A huge part is mental attitude. I'd say that if you're particularly unfit/fat then this should be a great spur and opportunity for you to get in shape.

Also, congrats! Welcome to the other side.

I found out a month ago I'm going to be a dad. If all goes well, the baby will be born a month before my 40th birthday. Perfect time really as we absolutely only want 1 child. We're financially set. Super set tbh. Perfect time really as far as these things go.

I'm 43 now and my first will be born next April :D

I worry a little how old I'll be when he/she is a teenager when parents will need to be the strongest mentally and physically.

Well we've got just under 5 weeks to go, and it turns out our boy is likely to be an absolute unit...so he might well be 'encouraged' to come and meet us a little earlier than planned. All of a sudden I've got a lot of washing and cleaning to get done whilst the Mrs nests at pace :D

Good luck to those of you joining the ranks of Dadhood. My wife was 42 when we had our girl (I turned 30 the next day) and neither of us would have changed anything.

She can be a real handful at times, but she is so damn cute I can't really get mad at her for long. I left the two of them in bed watching videos and got a really nice hug, kiss on the cheek and "I love you too daddy" that just set my day on the right track.

I genuinely don't know what I was planning with my life before I had her, but my priorities are all crystal clear now and it makes a lot of **** easier to deal with when you know exactly why you're doing it.

Sounds like me and my little girl... When I tell her off she puts her head down, sticks her bottom lip out and starts sniffling :p makes me feel like a bully :) but give it 5 mins and she's smiling and sat with me

I now get this whenever I get out the car to unload it

Arguments over who's driving :p and then them finding their favourite song.

4 days until the due date! Am i ready? Nope!

Am I excited? Hell yes!

Literally cannot wait to meet our little one now. We don't know the gender, so that's going to be one the of best surprises, but we already feel like we're starting to learn it's personality just from the movement and the way it interacts with us touching the bump.

Eurgh finger prints everywhere! You let them drink in there too? :(

I daren't venture into the back of my Audi
Doesnt really bother me. Leathers easy to keep clean. The worst is muddy footprints. I try to not let them eat in the car, drinkings not too bad as there's a cupholser in the middle of them. I'm guessing you've never taken their seats out, in which case you're in for a surprise:D followed by 'when did they eat that!'.

Thankfully we keep an old vacuum cleaner in the garage. To be fair, there's an equal number of crumbs in my thigh support gap after long family trips :o
Sand is the worst IME!

Tell me about it, i don't know whats worse trying to vacuum up sand from the boot or trying to get it off hard floors(as a lot seem to be laminated in newquay), just when you think you've got it all, you walk on it and find some more:p.

Tomorrow is the due date for our first. Thought it was all kicking off yesterday but nothing came of it in the end... this waiting lark is killing me. I don't remember the last time I was this excited!

My almost seven month old son has been largely breastfed and very dependent on his mother. No one else can put him to bed at night, and when he wakes a couple of hours later he screams and screams and screams if she's not there to put him back down.

Tonight was the first time I managed to put him to sleep without much involvement by his mum. Very pleased. Read Where The Wild Things Are and rubbed his back until he drifted off.

@toshj sounds like my lil one; tbf it seems to be common for breastfed babies, although they don't tell you that in advance as trying to get mothers to breastfeed is difficult at the best of times!
