I've just realised this is the last weekend of the 6 Nations and there are three games on at 1, 3 and 5.

I've also got a 30th Birthday to go to in London on the evening of the 15th.

I may have to duck out. :(

This is a good point.. a female Italian friend is coming over on that weekend too (and sorry guys there's no contest!).

The rugby will make it busy in Reading pubs.

Weekend after?

Completely forgot about 6 nations. Open to suggestions as particularly places like the 3Gs are going to be real busy that day. I can do week (or two weeks) after no probs. Week before is also doable but I'm not sure if that helps. Need to be careful about the end of the Premiership season as well, particularly with Reading where they are in the table.

Edit - checked fixture list. Away game the original weekend, home games before and after.

Travel and hotel booked.

I'll be flying down on the Saturday morning to Heathrow and getting the bus through from there. Cheapest train from Newcastle was £107. It's a 4.5hr-5hr journey so I would want first class for that length of journey, which would make it £270
BA flights were £124 and bus is £22 = £146. No brainer really, shorter trip for less money

Have booked into the Renaissance Reading Hotel (Marriott). Nice and handy for the station and looks like a nice hotel. Was only £70 (no breakfast - brekkie is £15.95 on top) for an executive double room for the night too. Stupid Marriott don't accept Maestro  and because I don't have a CC, I had to book through Activehotels which cost me a little more.

I'm in :D

I don't see any reason why the rugby should affect us too much. I'm sure we can find some quietish establishment in the afternoon that isn't full of part-time rugby fans and by evening time, it'll all be over with and the pubs should be no busier than they normally would on a Saturday night. I've spent most of the day planning and booking stuff and I don't really feel inclined to start changing it all because of a rugby match :(

I agree with Stan tbh. I understand with those who can't make it though.

I've been to a meet in Liverpool with a big home match on the same day, and though it got crowded it was still fun. :)

Ah there is a Marriott in Reading hey?

I knew that my mate that works for them would come in handy... I think that I might get a discount... well I know that I will :)

Stelly

Aye, there is. It's on Oxford Road on the opposite side from the Hexagon Theatre. I've walked past there several times on the way to a (now closed) electronics store. For some reason, I thought it was on the other side of the road, so I can only assume there are two hotels on that stretch of Oxford Road.

There is. There's a travelodge opposite :)

He said hotel, not doss house :p

That's the only other place similar to a hotel along Oxford Road :P You don't really want to be going any further down Oxford Road if you can avoid it anyway (I used to live 5 minutes from the Marriot, trust me when I say its not the friendliest of places).

Just thought I'd bump this to remind everyone that its only 3 weeks away :) Perhaps its worth confirming where we're meeting and who is actually going to be there so we don't leave anyone behind :)

My bus gets into the station at 12:23 so I should be booked into the hotel and ready for a beer by 13:00 at the latest :p

Stelly, did you book the Marriott?

Directions from the Marriott to the first port of call would be handy, bearing in mind I'm more comfortable navigating my way round the insides of an Akasa Eclipse than I am in an unfamiliar town :o

Stan, you'll be on the RailAir, right?

That one stops at the back of the railway station, and the Guineas (assuming that's where we end up) is at the front. I could probably meet you off the bus if it'll help getting you where you need to be. :)

As long as the Marriott is easy to find from the station I'll be ok. Once I've found my way there, I'll be able to find my way back to the station.

If it's a bit fiddly to find, a decent map or a personal guide would be handy.

It's pretty easy tbh, but it sounds like you'll be early so I don't object to a wander through Reading town centre and back so long as I can get to Reading on-time. :)

Righty then that's me booked up at the Marriot, I'll aim to get there around the time you'll be getting there Stan :)

Theoretically I should know where I'm going but I'll probably just cheat :p
