I've always loved fishing, and have fished for carp/perch etc etc in the UK, Spain, Germany, but haven't been in quite a while. However i've now decided to make a cocnerted effort to get back into it as I do genuinely love fishing, and where I live near Crawley in West Sussex has some good venues around. I also love sea fishing and had a great boat trip down in Brighton this Summer, some nice bass and bream were caught and eaten. :D

Any other anglers here, particularly of the freshwater variety? :)

Used to fish, not sure why I stopped. Loved carping, 21Lb 4oz's my personal best and also Piking was good fun. Barbel fishing on Worcestershire river waters is good fun, they put up a good fight :)

game fisherman here..I prefer to chuck some fluff instead of drown some maggots

nice to see some venues allowing people to fly fish for carp and pike now..pike on the fly is superb sport

even at normal trout venues such as derwent reservoir up here I have taken perch and roach on the fly..they will readily take a small nymph

Yep I've freshwater fished for years. Since I was about 8. I do mainly Carp fishing these days because I'm lazy. Whack a few baits out at 100 yards and fall asleep on a bedchair.

I've always really loved Tench fishing though.

Much like Danny I'm a carp fisherman as well, been fishing since I was 5 and progressed through float fishing down the local pond to the fully fledged tackle tart I am now. Did'nt get out much this year sadly due to the weather being poor and I'm generally a nice weather fisherman these days!

Where do you fish Danny? I notice you're about 25mins away from me and I'm always on the look out for a new decent water to try if you have any to recommend.

Maybe we should organize a OcUK fishing event! Theres a few waters you can book the whole lake for very reasonable rates.

My fishery is a pair of private lakes in cherry hinton. They used to be old chalk and lime pits and the syndicate brought them from blue circle cement works in the 80's.

The membership pays for re-stocking etc. It's a very closed water about 250 members and a 10 year waiting list. I've had mine since I was about 11.

In the main lake the Carp run to 40lb, the tench are plentifull and average around the 6lb mark and I've had a 100lb of bream in a night. A few people have had 10lb plus bream on boillies at night.

Roach and Rudd and regularly caught over the 2 1/2 to 3lb mark.

Not bad for a £40 a year membership.

What did you catch the Pike on?

my favourite pikebait

Smelt Tail.

trust me, lop off the head, fish the tail. i guarantee something in the order of 30-50% more pike on Smelt tail, over smelt head, or full smelt.

i do a lot of spinning also, have extensive collection of spinners, plus, surface lures, spinnerbaits. Alongwith my pride Shimano Beastmaster 7ft (MH) and Stradic Super GTM RA reel combo:)

russ, fishing is amazing man. but similar can be said for a lot of outdoor activities. you see things out there that others who spend their mornings in bed, or in the house will never see, or experience.

Fishing is just the excuse to get out there,

1st off start here;

2nd, what kind of venue are you going to be fishing? i do a lot of res, canal and river work, so very varied in what i need and what i use.

general "must have's"

http://www.harrissportsmail.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=12749 - size 4

http://www.harrissportsmail.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=14566 - get size 5.

http://www.harrissportsmail.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=12501 size 5

for the bigger pike; still used this on a canal:)

http://www.harrissportsmail.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=12443

remember, the bigger the blade the "slower" you can retrieve it and still get the blade to vibrate . i recently looked at;

http://www.harrissportsmail.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=12497

v good too, as the blade is designed to rotate slowly.

God I haven't been fishing in ages! Used to lure fish for pike mainly down my local lake.

Loads of small 2-3lb pike in there and the perch were nuts too so I always caught, along with the odd 10-12lber.

I wanna go again now :(
