I'm in Faygate, was a member of Crawley angling for years, joined horsham last year and think i'll be renewing again this year :)

Been toying with the idea of getting a boat for a spot of sea fishing of late too, nothing too big, 16 or 18 foot so I can trailer it.

I used to go flyfishing a bit for trout or salmon when i was younger. When i turned 18, the price of a season permit went from £5 to £100 and i couldnt really justify the cost for the time i spent fishing.

Did my first fishing trip in Australia today. Only went for a few hours in the afternoon to a mangrove creek. I managed to catch an Octopus  and nothing else. My friend caught a nice Coral Trout and some kind of perch related fish. Wasnt very successful but we're just starting out so will be doing a lot more this year.

nice ! i wouldnt like to catch an octopus however, mabe worse than hooking an eel?!

my dad has made me some lures, proper spoonage here!

going to a local res on tues or wed this week to test them out!

Some nice spoonage there. :D

They remind me of some lures we made about 25 years ago out of some handlebars from an old racer, sawn and bent into various shapes and sizes and then filled with lead with a trebble slapped on the end. They were highly unorthodox but boy they caught a lot of good fish.

I love catching fish on gear you're made yourself, there's definitely a certain satisfaction to it.

haha yes definately, well my dad using to go fishing as a lad with either hand made stuff, like using a tank ariel with eyes wipped on as a rod, and making his own lures! ill be off to a resovouir tomorrow with it being a bit clouded over and warm too which should be perfect for a spinning session i think!

never caught on a home made lure before but im hoping tomorrow is a first! if not ill whack a spinnerbait out there and see if i can get them stirring. the guy in the local tackleshop recommended i throw stones in around where we are fishing because the splashing will attract the pike?>!

Going to the Royal Berkshire Fisheries on Saturday if the rain isnt to bad http://www.rbf.co.uk/ taking my boy for some tiddler and Carp fishing. :)

Highly recommend the place, only small lakes but well stocked which is nice if you have been having a run of bad luck with regards to catching anything...like I have...

bah well i blanked as did my dad on the res. no sign of any fish let alone the monster pike i was looking for!

spoons looked good in the water but i had a full stack of lures, including canadian wigglers, mepps comet rublex ondex etc but it was just a desolate day:(

only managed to lose 4 lures inc 2 spoons and 4 traces too:/ doh

I really want to do some fishing this summer.
I used to fish semi-often when I lived in Abu Dhabi. Usually off a beach, but sometimes on our boat.

Also done fresh water in France, nothing major though as I was a child but I always enjoyed it.

What are the legalities of getting a rod, and going and sitting by a river somewhere in the Trossachs?

Closed season ends tomorrow (16th) Anyone going anywhere nice?

Also does anyone know what would be a good target bait for IDE and big Roach? My local pond is full of them but I'm struggling to get them out on our Sunday club matches :( I've had a few wins and a few seconds but it would be nice if I could be a bit more consistent with my wins. The only other person who is a consistent winner always has a bag full of IDE and Roach to about 2lb where as my weight is usually just regular roach and Skimmers of a smaller size (6-8oz)

I've been pretty much hammering them on Chopped worm and Casters and bulking out my feed with micro pellets flavoured with Molasses which really does seem to do the trick but the other guy who keeps winning is using chopped worm and caster in some ground bait! And he wont tell me what's in it :p

Anyway, Rant over I just thought I would blow off some steam and see if anyone had any ideas for getting those Bigger IDE and Roach in my bag!
