OcUK Forums Changes

OK, these are my thoughts right now.
Is the idea of splitting up certain forums (GPU into AMD/NV, consoles into MS/Sony/Nintendo) being put into consideration? I understand it may not be practical, or it probably would've been done already, but I think that certain people need their own play-pen now unless the dons enforce some sort of crackdown. :)

6 - Actively encourage meets and maybe even contribute to beer bill/other costs.

Spie is getting them in. Record number of people to the next meet Spie is at. :p

That list looks great.

I think a Laptop section would be a good idea.

How about a THANKS system to encourage others to help others rather then reply with a sarcastic comment. They have it on AV Forums and it's pretty good. Shows under your post count how many times you have thanked people and how many thanks you have received.

I liked this when i first saw it but it can be so easily abused.

Example on another forum...

One member has been thanked 15 or so times, 14 of those are by the same guy thanking him for backing him up in stupid PS3 fanboi threads.

Since then i've taken no notice of it.

OK, these are my thoughts right now.

1 - A special avatar or two for those with 5,000 and 10,000 posts.
2 - Bring back Underbosses.
3 - A few more Dons.
4 - More transparent moderating.
5 - Use built-in infraction facility.
6 - Actively encourage meets and maybe even contribute to beer bill/other costs.
7 - Increasing signature size to 25KB.
8 - Letting some users start polls (maybe 5K+ posters).
9 - Inviting certain banned members back who haven't burnt their bridges.

There are others but that was a quick 5 minute think.

Smileys... Don't forget the smileys ;)

I mentioned this yesterday.
Splitting up the GC forum will ruin it, one of the best things about it is people comparing cards and debating the merits of each make, as long as the debating is done sensibly and reported if anyone does overstep the mark it's great as it is:)

Never done sensibly though, so I think a crackdown is the next-best option. :p

on the flip side that will encourage more spamming but generally some good proposed changes.

I tend to stick around the hardware section nowadays. Some interaction between the shop and the hardware section would be welcome.

The only thing I would change would be a more transparent moderating. What I mean by that is rather than deleting posts/threads. Is for the Mod to leave yellow text stating what and why they have been changed. I think this would remove a lot of the why threads and also help people to remember what and what isn't allowed.

I too would like to see that.

A stop on thread deletion would be nice, unless it's slating the company or something dangerous or too extreme for the forum obviously.

But threads like 'Heads up.... such and such is on TV' could just be locked and a note saying no heads up threads rather than a straight delete and it never existed policy.

A reason why threads are locked would be nice I suppose too, again unless the thread is blatantly asking to be locked...

At least I am different now :p

Cheers Spie :D

re: the Thanks function, fair enough, if it is abused it kind of defeats the point of having it.

Spie, what do you think of splitting the forums up further as mentioned above, like having an Xbox and PS3 subsection under Console gaming for example?
