OcUK Forums Changes

I'd like to able to talk about tv shows that aren't here yet, obviously not stating where you get them from just talking about them. I know every other forum I visit allows this, including one that is bigger than this and would have a lot more to lose than here due to being a forum for a film magazine.

A lot of people here no doubt already watch them so why not allow us to talk about them?

@ Spie: Now that we have new Underbosses, are the other changes being implemented?

It would be nice to get the new 5000, 10,000 post avatars if nothing else :)

One thing I forgot earlier.

It would be much easier to contact mods if they had an email that was obtainable from a quick click on their name, either within the thread or where the forum mods names are shown.
Having to dig through FAQs/rules etc is not a good way of communicating.

Maybe all the mods should have a "[email protected]" address ?

Lady avatars. I fed up having a boy face! I'm a girl!

Also a ban log sticky so you can see why people have been banned and how long for. Useful for stamping out repeat offences.

Perhaps ban down to forum level. For example you may have a muppet who posts crud in GD but is actually really helpful in the sports forum. So ban him fro GD with a warning for a complete ban for anymore bad behaviour

Its not exactly bad behaviour, its stupidity that causes them to do that, lack of common sense.

I remember there used to be something similar to this for the Members Market - might be a bit too much work to admin across the whole forums though,.

More avatars in general would be good. Keep them predefined depending on post count but it would be nice to shake them up a bit. Keep the gangster/mafia theme but broaden the horizons. More films basically.

How about a three strike and your out system, i.e. if someone does something that leads to a ban/suspention, give them a strike, put something like 3 little stars under there avatar and when they get a strike, put a gold star inplace...

Also, when you hover over there star it will give you the reason and punishment, people can then see just by hovering whats gone on instead of having to ask and getting banned or you having to set up any other system...

this could be implimented very very easily and would be very effective. Im sure some people here would be in favour of that.

You can they see whats going in, how close you are to been kicked and theres nothing stopping you from adding 2 stars if someone does something bad or even 3... after 3 punishments if someone is stupid enough to do something bad again, then, pffft they should be gone.

How about a gangster theme for the forum, black, brown, orange, php type coding, make things look bigger, make them stand out... might look pretty cool

Having a gold star award system for rule breaking seems a tad contradictory :D

Why? i think it would ber a very productive system, it may cause some finger pointing and micky taking but that usually life on OcUK...

WOOOOOOOooooooooooSH!

It's like in primary school. You get a smily face for doing well and a sad face for doing badly. Gold stars aren't your usual punishment indicators. Same reason you can award a thread stars!

That gets my vote too. As long as you don't mention where you got them, it should be fine - especially as you can often import the DVDs before they are shown here too.

il second that

maybe a female from the sopranos or something ?

For some reason I think a decent face shot/crop of Sally Bowles from Cabaret would make a great avatar.

Something like this:

Would probably have to get the film and crop it out to get the perfect one but you can see what I mean.

edit:

You'd actually have to have a few different avatars though wouldn't you, same as we have for the gents depending on post count.

Bigger sigs (not filesize but dimensions), a higher post view per page (currently the highest is 80), an increase in the number of smilies that can be posted in a single post and a filter that stars out swear words, I know there is already one in effect, but there are some words that people really don't consider swear words who get suspended for using them when there is no real place in the FAQ where it lists words that are banned. I've used the alternate 'f' word featured in Father Ted and been suspended for it, over here it's not considered a swear word, I've even heard it used on daytime tv. If I had known it was banned I would never have used it, but most people only find out a word is unacceptable after they've been suspended for it (obvious swear words aside of course), people need to know what words are not permitted to begin with, it would make the don's jobs easier. The one issue that could arise would be disguised swear words, but again they could just be added to the swear filter as and when they arise.
