OcUK Karting Meet - Gathering Interest

Excellent, it'd be great to get some feedback. I work at The Bear - if you're feeling social, feel free to pop in and ask for Ben after 7pm :)

Might do depending on what time we finish. Typically runs until 10pm depending on how late people arrive and how organised things are (hopefully more organised this week).

How much time do you get for £30?

If its arrive 'n drive its 30min run, they do lots of other knockout/endurance events as well which vary in cost.

quite a few vids on youtube as well, good to know I've got the right driving line :)

I wouldnt want to embarress the bmw drivers, so will have to pass. Unless ofcourse they do a tdi kart, you know, which doesnt have enough revs to move forward ;)

You wouldn't even come anyway so what's the point?

If we book the whole track we will almost certainly get more than 30 mins of track time. When I went with my group of 15 we had at least an hour on track.

Ok guys, here's what I've had back from Sandown Park:

Daytona 40
This exclusive format consists of 10 mins. practice followed by 1 x 40 minute endurance race or you can have 5 mins. practice followed by 1 x 15 minute endurance race followed by a further race of 20 minutes. All drivers would race in 70mph twin-engined prokarts and be on the 900m Grand Prix Circuit at the same time. The cost is £70.00 per driver and this is inclusive of vat and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed drivers. A minimum of 15 drivers is required and a maximum of 32 is permitted.
This event will take approximately two hours from arrival to trophy presentation and podium photographs.

Daytona Mini Prix
This exclusive format consists of 5 mins. practice followed by 3 heats of 8 minutes per driver and then a 10 minute per driver final. All drivers would race in 70mph twin-engined prokarts and be on the 900m Grand Prix Circuit at the same time with drivers qualifying for their grid positions throughout their heats. The cost is £75.00 per driver and this is inclusive of vat and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed drivers. A minimum of 15 drivers is required and a maximum of 25 is permitted.
This event will take approximately two hours and 20 minutes from arrival to trophy presentation and podium photographs.

Daytona Triple
This exclusive format consists of 5 mins. practice followed by 3 x 10 minute endurance races. All drivers would race in 70mph twin-engined prokarts and be on the 900m Grand Prix Circuit at the same time. The cost is £52.50 per driver and this is inclusive of vat and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed drivers. Scores for all 3 races are accumulated to determine the winners. A minimum of 15 drivers is required and a maximum of 32 is permitted.
This event will take approximately one hour and 10 minutes from arrival to trophy presentation and podium photographs.

Daytona Cup
This exclusive format consists of 5 mins. practice followed by 1 x 30 minute endurance race. All drivers would race in 70mph twin-engined prokarts and be on the 900m Grand Prix Circuit at the same time. The cost is £55.00 per driver and this is inclusive of vat and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed drivers. A minimum of 15 drivers is required and a maximum of 32 is permitted.
This event will take approximately one hour and 30 minutes from arrival to trophy presentation and podium photographs.

We also run a Daytona 40 Open race every Saturday at 11.30a.m. The format consists of 10 mins. practice followed by 1 x 40 minute endurance race @ £57.00 per driver. As this is an open race, it would not be exclusive to your group but no minimum number of drivers would be required.

So, a bit more expensive than what I originally posted, however there's considerably more track time.

Thoughts?

From that I'd say Triple or Cup to be honest. Granted it's near to £60 but you get lots of driving for the money and it's the larger number of participates...although I haven't counted how many said they would go, so 25 max may be fine.

Edit: Although as I managed to skip it, 40 does seem good. Whatever is decided I'm in, will work out travel etc. when date is sorted. :)

Daytona 40 or Mini Prix for me, although I'll be in no matter what we decide.

40 minutes in the kart is pretty extreme though. I'm usually aching after about 10 minutes! :p

Happy to give people lifts if they can a) get to Cambridge b) aren't too far off the route c) chuck in a bit of diesel money.

Daytona 40 sounds the best of those :).

I'd offer some lifts too but I'm only 20 mins down the road from the venue.

Still, if anyone's in Surrey and wants picking up..

Sounds interesting, although I wonder if they ballast karts for 16.5 stone fatties like me :( :P

I'll have a look at cash as i'm coming out of an expensive Evo month, but I'm definitely interested.

I've been to Crawley before they changed it - the endurance races at Daytona should be interesting, 15 mins in a 40mph was knackering and there wasn't a great deal of blood left in the hands :D

As a fellow fatty I asked this question when I went to Crawley a few weeks ago. Apparently it actually makes no difference. Although the weight slows you down up ramps etc you actually end up with the greater traction out of corners etc which means the weight differences generally make no odds. I was disappointed by this too considering my skinny mate had just beaten my fastest laptime by less than 0.1 seconds!
