OcUK "Meals of the World"?

Easy.... Ask a mod to setup a poll... surely be same time every week?

I ton of votes in a poll with little or no explanation for the reasoning behind the vote would kind of suck in my opinion. I'd prefer something where people have to respond with some kind of qualitative feedback.

Then count the votes via posts.... these things require a certain amount of time and effort but yet yield plenty in return :)

Yeah, that'd be fine and more in line with what I originally imagined.

It's not my idea or anything though so I guess I'll just see what happens :)

That's the English/Italian/American weeks, so you can do it three times.

I'm out, not sure low carb dishes would work well for this.

Hmm. I'm not so sure. I imagine there are plenty of low carb dishes from all countries. I'm also generally on a low carb thing at the moment (though I cheat some days).

Sounds like a brilliant idea to me if worked out correctly it'll be an awesome thread. I'd love to participate in this too, unfortunately with two of us in this house both working shifts (sometimes opposing) eating together rarely happens and when it does neither of us have time to make anything fancy. :(

I'm in but I'd say we should have the voting done for a big load at once. Perhaps the first 13? Allows people to plan their meals and shopping a bit more to keep costs down for the poorer (me) members!

I think those who took part that week vote for their top dishes and points are then awarded. Obviously, you can't vote for yourself. I think a picture of your ingredients, and a picture of the final dish would be all that is required for the competition but hopefully people would post full recipes with pictures if they wanted.

I'll be happy to participate when I'm home. Since I work away from home, month on, month off, I won't be able to do every challenge but I'll do the ones I'm home for. Sounds like a lot of fun :)

Okay guys, looks like enough people would want to do it, it's just a case of finding a decent equilibrium. Really, the meals don't need to be hugely special. Even if you made some homemade humous for Greece, that's absolutely fine. It shouldn't HAVE to take several hours to prepare.

This sounds interesting and should give people some new experiences of cooking. I'm alway interested in trying to make new things but often it is easy to just stick with the norm.

My idea for a weekly task was to base it on ingredients (a bit like the Hugh's Three Good Things), each week a selection of ingredients will be chosen and then those taking part would use their own imagination/experience to make something up.
Not easy to make into a competition (no tasting! :p) but could just be a bit of fun to explore new recipes and ingredients. Maybe after this one.

Also interested, but like a few others, can't do it every week so will very much be only participating on and off if that's ok.

I think there are some less labour and cost intensive things you can do, creating a full meal in a different country etc. I just think you have to do some research on it.

I'm looking forward to it as I have a Tapas book, Greek, Indian and Moroccan that I've not cooked from yet lol :D
