Why should I leave the thread? Because you tell me to? Behave...
I love speed/fast driving as much as the next man. I would not own the cars I do if I didnt. But doing these so called 'tests' on a public road is just stupidity.
Hi m8
I completely agree with what your saying. Fact is though I doubt this thread is gonna make anybody do anything stupid because those who intend on video their speedo are going to do it anyway irrelevant of this thread or not. Look at the responses already, look how many post there are on this forum of people posting videos are their speedos. I could search this forum for videos already posted and no doubt add several results.
Anybody video their speedo doing such speeds should not be doing it on a public road, not even the M6 toll road. Going past 100mph on UK roads can result in death, injury, lots of expense, points on license, getting banned or even worse jail sentence.
However I am sure people here must have at least one friend or family member in the RAF. My cousin until recently was in the RAF and was often in different bases around the UK. At weekends they often had events where RAF members or a guest would test their bikes or cars on the runway. My cousin is no longer in the RAF but one of his mates got married to my other cousin and as such things can still normally be arranged. There are also a lot of older closed down airfield bases or abandoned ones in the UK. So getting access to one is not as impossible as some people may think if you have friends in the RAF or ring some of the older private airfields that no longer have aircraft landing at them. Close to me their is Hixton air base, now abandoned, not in great condition but people seem to get on it from time to time and mess around, whether they are doing so with permission or not I am not sure but I am sure permission can be obtained if one ask nicely or pays a small fee.
Then for some a drive to Germany to get on the autobahn seems to be an easy thing, quite a few guys here travel to the ring or go for drives across Europe and as such could be an ideal time to video speedo. Again just remembering because its legal to drive fast on the autobahn does not make it any safer however.
Once again this thread is not instructing people to go out and do this, anybody can say no and there are numerous different tables to participate in, not everyone needs to try and hit 155mph and I don't recommend that they try either because in some cars it could be very unsafe to do so even on an airfield. However the 60-100mph table is nothing out of the ordinary, again don't do it on UK roads even though unfortunately I think most people here no doubt hit 100mph everyday on UK roads and without even knowing it.
Also this thread is open to say cars you don't own, so if you have seen a video clip of a car then feel free to post it and I can make a seperate column for none owned OcUK cars to build up a comprehensive list of cars.
For example on youtube their is a video of a Corvette Z06 stock going from 0mph upto 195mph on a US airbase so something like this could be added to help further build the list.
I shall start asking aroud about what it cost and takes to have a proper VMAX day organised with proper equipment. Because I am sure many people like me would love to race against each other from 30-155mph rolls and also get proper timed GPS results from their cars too on a properly organised day on an airfield using proper equipment. I suspect if we had 60 runners all paying so much money each I am sure something could be sorted. Hence anyone who can help please do so.
