Hey. I was just thinking. On OCUk there's a vast amount of gamers playing various genre's of games. I was thinking about the games that i'm into racing, sports, FPS i've never really played anything else apart from a spot of C&C.

So I propose like a mini-review section. Where you can review a game (old or new). Talk about the good points bad points etc. I think this could be quite good as you could get people into a game they've never heard of or considered playing. Spread the joy of your genre.

So OCUK what do you think?

UPDATE: August 2008

OK My first review is up. Check it out here

Have a sub-forum under PC Games/ Console sections?

Then sub-forums under these if you can under those sub-forums, dividing it up into genres!

Sounds like a great idea!

Ill play some more hospital tycoon and review that by next weekend :D

I think we should have a template that all reviews need to stick to, such as:

-Name of Game:
-Publisher
-Game desccription
-First impressions
-Personal opinion
-Specifics on Graphics
-Specifics on Gameplay
-" " Longevity
-Pro's & Con's
-Overall Impression
-Final score
-Other games like it

I think if we keep them structured like this or something similar, it will make them easy to follow.

Also we could make a rule that you need at least three, thumb nailed screenshots, so people can see what it looks like.

Anyone think of anything i could add?

One thing I should point out is that new sub-forums are only added in very exceptional circumstances. In the past 5 years or so the only changes I can remember to the gaming forum structure are Console/PC getting split and a temporary forum for World of Warcraft for a few months when it was first released.

I think if such a venture is undertaken it will need to be done in a single thread.

I disagree with the template idea, it'd limit peoples creativity and make reviews seem a bit samey. The only rules I'd propose quite loosely would be a minimum length, at least one screenshot and a score of some kind.

It's a nice idea, though I agree with HangTime this would be best as a thread. If enough people post reviews in here it should build up a bit of steam and a moderator can get rid of all the non-review posts to make it easier to read. You could even edit the original post then with a sort of contents of the different reviews. That's one way of doing it, anyway.

Good idea on the contents, and i see your point about the template, but i think we should have some defined structure so people could skip to the bit they want to know about the game rather than having to read the whole thing?

Any other views on this?

Major Bump!!!

Hey guys I forgot all about this thread. I'm thinking about writing a review or two. Wondered if anybody else would be interested in writing one as well. What do you think. The idea got some good reception but didn't really take off.

What do you think?

Having a long thread of reviews wouldn't work. Only way I can see this being decent is to contact the webmaster and put your idea across to have different forum sections made for the different genres such as rpg, action etc
