OcUK Photo Comp - Season Five : Round Two - "Religion" Discussion

Before things get too far in, the other judges and I have been having a discussion and we'd like to introduce a template for information that we'd like you to post with your entry that contains all the infomation we need about your photo if you don't provide the EXIF.

Let me know what you think:

Code:
[b]Required Information[/b]
Camera (make & model):	Canon 10D, Canon 50mm mkII f1.8
Date: 01/01/2006

[b]Optional Information[/b]
Aperture: f8
Shutter: 1/250th sec
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 50mm
Flash: No

Hopefully this will avoid any of the confusion we had last round with what is and isn't required.

now lets make it clear...we still need that box even with EXIF info?

I don't see why we'd really need any more than that form.

I suggested the template to cut down on people forgetting things, or posting loads of useless EXIF info!

I say we just use that form and everyone fills it out for their shot, rather than just cutting and pasting loads of useless EXIF info.

I suggest the mandatory info should be listed, and the optional just left out, if the judges wanted to, they can look at the EXIF.

And if the poster want to list the optional info because they shot with film, they can do.

Think I'll go back to using my Kodak Disc camera , lot less hassle :)

Ps. I've put an entry up while I think about the theme some more , can anybody tell me what it is ;)

Seeing as one of the captions for marking is impact/wow factor how would a KKK symbol, a burning cross for example, go down? :p

jezsoup,

To be honest, even though 'religion' is the theme, I don't think the judges will be marking up or down anything that may or may not offend their own beliefs, and with things such as the KKK or the burning crosses, there will be certainly an element of grittiness and 'wow' factor to it.

But I was in London on Friday (pictures coming) and I saw a lot of pictures in the Dutch Photography Gallery near Leicester Square depicting gritty stuff...things that to me, were, in short, pornographic in nature. They had a story behind them and to me it was still art

To me there are two types of photos..the ones that you think 'wow, that's beautiful/amazing' then the other type that makes you think 'Crikey, that's powerful' which makes it just as good in my eyes.

I seem to have rattled on a bit! But that's the way I see it!

I don't think we need anything like this. It is far too confusing for new people to have to fill in a box before they can enter. The competition is meant to be easily accessible. This just creates a deterent which will stop a lot of people entering. Also, people with film cameras might not know the exact date. Remember, it is impossible to prove a date and is dependent on trust.

As someone who has been lurking for a little while, something like the box would be very helpful for a new person - its clearer on what is required and what is optional than it is in the opening post.

Other than whether the flash was used, I wouldn't be able to tell you any other the other optional stuff, so rather than not entering because I'm worried my lack of info would be frowned upon, it would just be a case of not entering because I 'm a coward :o

I dont know if its my browser playing up, or my ISP, but ghostintheshell's image isnt showing up here

I'd be grateful of a description for this, as the version of PSP that I am using doesnt seem to support it...

Surely all the digital guys can just post the image with the exif data embedded. If people are not sure on this then there needs to be instructions at the start of a thread or a thread on posting images with the exif data entact

Its only the film guys that woudl need that template...
how many people are using film tho?

It isn't showing up for me either.

It appears his entire post is just "Place holder". I don't get why people do this. If your wondering during the judging all the images get sent to me in a big .zip file. They come up in alphabetical order so when you post your image in the thread matters not.

same here.... no image... seems like just a place holder??

I don't even look at the submissions thread... So placeholders are a complete waste of time, and tbh they're a pain. People putting up random images and then not changing them just means we have to spend more time judging entries that don't really belong in the comp.

mrk,

snap, was looking at islam as a subject.

why that angleon the Quraan though?

me, i might do the shahada (profession of faith to become a muslim for you infidels out there...:p) or a transliteration i have... :)

I was going to do the mosque but that's only on fridays and I don't have time on fridays :p
I chose the angle because it's the view an onlooker would get, the holybook is orientated towards the reader on the otherside and of course I wanted to give the 3rd person view of it on a prayer mat.

Also, rule of thirds :)

And after all that I thought it was upside down :D
