OcUK Poker Thread.

Haven't played for a while now but put $10 into Full Tilt for something to do on my day off and built it up to $70, mostly playing super turbo's. People seem to think they have to chuck it in with any old rags and hit lucky, just being patient and not worrying when I get short. Only time I've lost seems to be playing AQ. Had it 8 times, favourite 6 times and lost every single hand with it. Still hate it.

All these are 6 player tournies with result, top 2 pay:

$1 - 1st, 2nd
$2.25 - 1, 2, 5, 5, 6, 2, 1
$5 - 2, 3, 1, 1, 1, 3, 6, 2, 6, 1, 1, 1, 3, 1

Of 22 tournies: 9 wins, 4 seconds. Not bad going for such a long time away. Up to $86 now, running like a dream..

I play a lot of the 50/50 turbo's on Pokerstars.

Same idea on there, people go mad with rubbish. All you need to do is place in top 5 to minimum get your money back plus "x" cents per hundred chips you have left. So even if your short stacked you just need to hang on a place 5th and you at the least get your money back.

The other night I won 2 of these playing just 5 hands in the whole thing and then just sitting tight as chip leader and let everyone else knock each other out.
 
Played a 9-person sit and go on PokerStars and finished second (the way the chip lead flip-flopped between me and the other guy when we were heads up was mental), which is my best result since I started playing again after a very shaky start. Now to improve on this. :)
 
I think to up my game and start learning some of the theory behind the game. Are there any recommended sites (or books, preferably available on the Kindle store) for stuff like working out the odds, importance of position etc.?

Currently not having a bad day, but I do wish I'd stop playing AQ as much as I do... :o

Edit: Third time this week I've folded a crap first hand at a sit & go and it would have gone on to hit a full house. I think the poker gods are trying to goad me in to actually playing them for once. :p

once the turn removes the draw possibilities it is value time, pre flop the more in the more set mining becomes viable (or just taking down on a dry flop)
 
Had a really really bad losing streak. Played a little badly in some games but busted out of 2 tournaments from total gut shots from players who really should not have called my shove with what they were holding at the time.


Somewhat annoying but ah well.
 
Played 2 ISPT day 1s and didn't get through to Wembley :(


Did end up playing on same table as Bill Maynard ( Greengrass in Heartbeat . Selwyn Froggit etc) , smashing bloke, he even owned up when he farted :p

I have the opportunity to take part in today's P'Stars Sunday Millions tournament. Currently deciding whether to buy in directly or take part in a $50 satellite.

I know one of you has entered the SM tournament before (and made it to the final table). Just want to know how long this tournament usually lasts?

It starts at 7.30 today.... Thing is I have work the next day and I dont really want to be playing into the early hours of Monday morning (lol assuming I make it that far)
