OcUK Poker Thread.

Some of you may recall the annual 2 day outdoor game myself and my mates play at my house every year, we got fed up with crap weather so this will take place next week, IN PORTUGAL

we have hired a villa and head off on Monday for a week of poker and beer poolside :)

Ahh where was the invite, got a week off work next week would have been perfect :p

Ive been playing every few weeks at the Vic casino...had some bad beats...got rivered so many times recently...lost about £400 in total :(

That time of the year again.... Got the poker bug.

Started playing online for the first time in months. Put 50$ into the account and played cash games for about 4 hours lol.

All in all it was a decent session.

Spent most of Saturday and Sunday playing cash (0.01 / 0.02) games on Stars. Close to 8 hours on 12 tables a session. Playing a little over 1000 hands per hour.

Yesterday afternoon I took place in a 39$ Sunday Millions qualifier. Managed to qualify (around the 5th time I've made it to the Sunday Million). Chose have the entry for another sunday as I was way too tired to play anymore lol

Ah, online poker. Also known as "battle of the bots".

I did some extensive reading on bots and whatnot following a night of bad decisions and a few hundred quid, turns out that something silly like 3% of the online poker world are actual players, the rest are bots.

Whether this applies to championships is debateable, I'm sure you could get into some serious trouble for that.

Source for your dubious claim?

No idea, it was a good few years ago. Might be 5%, might be 7%. I just remember reading the article and thinking it was insane.

Do some research, it's actually quite an interesting subject. All is not what it seems on those poker tables ;)

sorry but you've basically got no basis to make those claims

If the percentages of bots were that high then you'd have a hell of a lot of people out there running multitabling bots that perpetually lose money

There are bots, though the idea they constitute the majority let alone that portion of the player pool is very unrealistic

As I said, do some research. I've done it all before and come to my conclusions based on the info I found myself. Whether or not you believe anything I say is entirely up to you, but if it got you thinking, I'd like to encourage you to do some reading yourself.

This is a good read:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/14/science/14poker.html

Here are some stats from some random guy's blog (again, I can't vouch for this, never seen this before):

As of October 15, 2010

Percentage of online poker cheats playing collusion only: 42%
Percentage of online poker cheats using bots only: 29%
Percentage of online poker cheats playing collusion with bots: 21%
Percentage of online poker cheats hacking and stealing info: 8%

Source.

I could link more and more, as I said I've done some fairly extensive research on this and know more about the cheats than I do about the game. Let's just say that if you want, you can make some serious bank if you have the hardware and time to set it all up.

If you had said something like 30%, maybe, even though farfetched, I could have believed it. 3% is just silly though.

Maybe he found an article a while back that got a bit dramatic re: these secretive botters making money at online poker... where a 3% figure was mentioned... probably just confusion/bad memory and the article was perhaps citing 3% of players being bots rather than the other way around...

Or maybe there is a ridiculous article out there - would be interested in seeing the source of the claim regardless

Look I'm not stating this as fact, as I said it was a good few years ago and it might've been a sensationalized article but I just wanted to bring it to the attention of you guys in case you weren't aware :)

You're not bringing anything really, you seem to have a bad recollection or understanding of an article you read a while ago. people are aware that bots exist... the idea that they number in the percentages you're suggesting is silly.
