OcUK Poker Thread.

Rather than trawl through the thread, can someone recommend a good poker book for newcomers to improve their game with? I played on and off a few years ago for around a few months, and over the last month I have re-started playing. Cheers. :)

I have never read a book on how to play poker in my life.

As they saying goes: Practice makes perfect.

;)

Yes, I appreciate practice is very important. Nevertheless, I am interested in reading a book written by a professional or watching some video guide. I can only learn more and get a different perspective. :)

I'd imagine that some of the bigger names in the game have done 1 or 2, namely Hellmuth, Chan, maybe Negranue.

I guess the rainforest would sell them

some good books in general....

theory of poker
mathematics of poker
harrington on hold em
harrington on cash
kill everyone

Plus super system, good for beginners

Tis quite comprehensive but was written some time ago so worth bearing in mind that the game will have changed considerably since it was published.

Still it is available free online AFAIK so def worth a read.

My dad's housemate won £29,000 on Ladbrokes at the weekend, jammy sod.

Won the bad beat jackpot - he held quad 10's, other guy had a royal flush. He thought he'd won £100 and crapped himself when 29 big ones landed in his account :D:cool:

lol, wasnt there any big flash animation come up when it happened?

Seen stuff like that happen on Partypoker when it's won.

Checked the BB and got this:

.........

Wow, that's sick. You had the Aces, two guys with pocket Queens. You keep your pocket Aces, the other hits a straight and the other, the winner, a flush.

Wow, that really is sick.

You can't beat yourself over a proper good call though.

Oh well.

Rotty what do you make of my decision to call a push from someone going over the top of me at a live game last night.

About 17 left, chip average is around 56000, I have about 42k.

blinds: 1500/3000/400 9 players on our table.

from just before the cut off I look down at AKos, raise to 12k. everyone folds to the BB who pushes all in and has me covered. I make the call and go out to pocket 99s

I am not folding AK with 14 BB left to a 3 bet

call all day :)

basically it's at worst a race against all but 2 hands and you have to put 30k into a pot of 62k

Talk about not taking a hint, WTF did he think I had ? !!!!!!!!!
