OCUK Rolling Road Day 11 @ Eurospec (Guildford) - Sat 19th March 2011

Just to warn everybody that I MAY be an epic failure.

Sorry, but I smashed my exhaust on a 'bollard' and it doesn't sound too healthy (even after half a tub of exhaust paste) so I'm having a bit of a sulk.

I'll keep you informed :(.

It's over a week away, plenty of time to order a new one (or a second hand one if you are a cheapskate :p).

Problem is that I really don't want to stick a standard system back on the car, so I'm staring down the barrel of a £600+ bill for a replacement system. I'd sooner sell it to be honest.

Like I said, I may come along and run. I just need to monitor things, maybe get it on a ramp again and most importantly stop sulking before I decide for sure. Right now I want to cut my losses and get rid :(.

I'm curious to know how you've managed to trash an entire exhaust system in one go.

Mine consists of at least 5 pieces, how can yours be a total loss?

You need a full system? How long was this bollard and how much damage is done!!!!

If you can't get a 2nd hand exhaust and would rather sell, maybe you can't afford to run it :p

You are right - I am over reacting. It is a bi-product of the sulking :p.

I had it up on a ramp at work and visually it is okay (apart from the flange and a few inches backwards on the pipe where the 'bollard' connected). My thought is maybe the impact could have dislodged a baffle(s) in the silencer(s) or something to that effect. It was quite a nasty hit. 15-20MPH and a real loud thud. I don't think it sounds blatantly wrong but It doesn't sound like it did and it winds me up. Slightly more noise and the burble doesn't seem deep enough :(.

 :D

I've been eyeing up a few other cars over the past couple of days, this is the sort of excuse I need to justify changing cars ;).

Good to see you taking my comment as intended :D:D

Sounds a bit of a weird one, Are there any breaks in the seals between the sections due to bending etc?

or just buy something else :D:D

You drove into a bollard at 20mph and theres no visual damage? By bollard do you mean a drain cover, and by 20mph do you mean 2mph?

That's a battle in itself. I still don't know if I want a relaxed luxo barge (XJ8) or a force inducted 0-60 in 5 seconds old rocket (MR2 Turbo). Ideally I get both in the form of an odd XJR but I can see insurance being a bit of a stumbling block. Oh, and there is a nagging voice in the back of my head that says that I can't really afford mental cars without mum around and that I should get something sensible to get me to work and back cheaply. I think some people call that voice 'Responsibility' but I'm doing my hardest to ignore it :p

It wasn't really a bollard, just something that sticks up out of the ground a couple of inches for the gate. I remember thinking 'That's perhaps a bad idea' but my colleagues got over it fine so I thought I'd be okay. Of course they've got normal cars and I've got a Soarer with a 35mm+ drop. Just a dent and bit of paint transfer, nothing that could really cause the exhaust note to go out of whack.

Come on. You should know what I'm like by now ;).
