Power consumption is really meh. Better to stick to one of the £160 RX570 cards or £200 RX580 methinks.

Looking at the computerbase.de at the stock RX590 clocks its actually close to the RX580,but with the pre-overclocks it goes wonky. Also they really needed to ship this with faster GDDR5 too.

Umm,you do realise GF 12NM is the same as GF 14NM,but you can achieve higher clockspeeds. Its the same process used in Ryzen 2000,which has exactly the same die size as Ryzen 1000. The GTX1060 GPU is 200MM2.
You realise the power draw required to get that performance is not worth the effort to even bother with 12nm. This is purely some wafer allocation agreement.

So in rough terms it's 20% faster than an RX 480 and 20% slower than a GTX 1070, and 23% slower than a Vega 56. (Based on Tech Power Up's performance summery.

So very much in the middle of those cards.

Dude seriously - we have been talking about GF 12NM in the CPU section for six months now. Its not rocket science.

I don't disagree the power consumption is meh - but its the same process,so the die size won't change. So unless AMD used higher density libraries which 12NM does support, die size is the same, and they didn't use it with Ryzen+ either. Its the same with Ryzen+ as it used 12NM to push clockspeeds up,but it lost effiency. So both AMD "12nm" shrinks had no effect on chip size.

I doubt its down to WSA either. Since whether AMD uses 14NM or 12NM it makes no difference to what they use as long as they buy the wafers they said they would need. So I expect its more a case they want to free up capacity. If you look AMD Rome, the controller die is made on GF 14NM,NOT 12NM and is mahoosive. Its significantly bigger than a Polaris GPU.

So I think they are quietly pushing the GPUs to 12NM,so they can free up 14NM wafers for Rome.

Eventually once the RX580 stocks run out,and the RTX cards start dropping a bit in price(or the GTX2060 is released),this will drop down in price.

hmm, seems like it fills a hole in the market, but nothing really special. a couple years backit might have been more interesting but really feels like another example of how stagnant the current GPU space is. Getting on for 30 months of basically the same price for the performance :(

Looks like the GTX2060 will be the next hope then or the 7NM shrink. I expected power consumption to be worse but not to the degree in some of those reviews, but it makes me wonder whether AMD should have just shipped it at RX580 clocks instead, and tried to drop power instead.

eeeeee let me sum this up
It's using more juice than 1080ti
Uses more than vega 56
slower than either of them eeeee LOL

@himbug its AMD they can't just wait for navi matching 1080 performance at 300 pounds. :D

Let's face it this Vega 56 with 3 games for 300 deal that Gibbo sorted is best deal on AMD atm

Next hope for what? It's gonna be a 1070 Turing edition (and priced as you'd expect), just like 2070 is 1080 Turing edition etc, except in this case without even the RTX excuse. As for them dropping power consumption instead, lol, no one cares except people that complain on forums (and silly reviewers). The rest of the world looks at price & performance. People who are "power conscious" would buy Nvidia anyway, and if they really want AMD nothing's stopping them from undervolting & underclocking.

I suppose you have a point,so 7NM its is LOL.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by how much shilling all these tech sites are doing, especially looking at at TechSpot/HardwareUnboxed who don't even bother to mention the games the card comes with but complain about price/performance after every sentence, but it's still disgusting. Suppose we can hope customers will inform themselves better, but who knows. Certainly they won't ever see offers as good as these from Nvidia.

Up against my card it's 5 FPS or less faster @ 1080p, i'm happy I didn't wait 3 months for this. Though to be fair Powercolor's new Red Devil will be probably be a better card than XFX's.
