OcUK RX9070 Series Review Thread

i just managed get through to the 9070 XT page, all gone.... even the £800 Asus card is sold out, the Pulse is still priced at £570.

9070 looks much like an Nvidia card in performance and power usage.

XT goes for an extra 10% performance for 50% more power.

Exactly. It’s put me off the XT to be honest. It doesn’t seem to be leveraging its considerable core speed and core count particularly well. I’m much more impressed with the 9070’s efficiency and the performance is still sensible. Looking at the performance difference between the two parts, it’s not like it becomes unplayable going from the XT down.

I might wait and see if the 9070 gets a price cut later in the year.

I don't consider what they've done with the 9070XT/9070 good enough to change things.

I mean, look at the actual prices now the MSRP stuff has disappeared.

AMD are just doing exactly the same as Nvidia really
I agree with this tbh. I was ready to ship out my 6950xt RD, but when I thought about it, it just didn't seem that worth it, once I knew getting one at MSRP would be this hard. If the 5070ti comes in with good stock availability soon, then I can see the sales of the 9700xt dropping off, and AMD back where they were before all the hype. A shame though as we really need AMD to push Nvidia to get realistic about pricing, as well as the consumer not realising that they're having their pants pulled down and doing naff all about it.

I think the general malaise with the 5XXX series will cause Nvidia to do better next generation.

I mean what Nvidia has released is embarrassingly bad in terms of gen on gen gains

i see this argument a lot, its asinine, it does not work, not for AMD, not for you, it has the opposite effect.

It has the same memory bandwidth. What AMD has achieved with such limited memory bandwidth is impressive IMHO,and it will bode well for the PS5 PRO IMHO.

Totally agree, but Nvidia do whatever they like it seems all the time, and still sit top of the pile. I'm at the point that I don't get enough game time, so I'm happy to sit out while my current card still does more than enough for my needs. I may even just get a ps5 pro, rather than pay these crazy prices we see gen on gen.

Look at Strix Halo, its a memory bandwidth constrained iGPU, it shouldn't really work as anything other than..... well an iGPU and yet it can keep up with a 40 series dGPU using a lot more power.

Just step back for minute and realise what an achievement that is.

The problem is that NVIDIA release a steaming pile of garbage and people still queue up to buy it. I’ve had enough and am going AMD this time. Hopefully more people will do the same and we get a decent upgrade next gen without the stock shortages, missing Rops, melting connectors etc.

When a £600 mid tier GPU is pushed as a bargain.

I don't disagree with the sentiment at all

But if you take a gander at even at the 9070
Is there a better GPU at the price point?

I'm pretty sure a lot of the demand is bots, but there's still been a lot of genuine demand because people are after upgrades.

World has unfortunately moved on from the prices we saw 5 years ago. A 3070 FE back then (if you could get one direct) was 469 quid so for 539 quid, the 9070 seems like it's around the same when you factor in inflation.

I think the more difficult part now is the whole idea of 'mid tier'.

Cost me £540 for 3070 in November 2020. Paid the extra price on that.
