OcUK Ryzen 3000/Zen 2 review thread

4.65Ghz on a pre launch bios is a very good sign for future bios revisions. Once this is all ironed out it will be interesting to see benchmarks.

I'm just waiting on an x370 bios that shows support for a 3900x. Should see a nice difference from my 1700, although at the moment i'm only playing Old School Runescape. A phase that I will probably be stuck in for the next few months before going back to real games for another year or so.

seriously considering updating one of my rigs to a 3700x for a play what mobo ans ram to go with it though. not a 570x as dont like the fan or the price of them currently. fan goes your left with a waiting to be dead mobo. so which mobo do you pick ?
x370, x470 or B450 which can be flashed without a CPU, unless the seller can ship it with an updated bios.

cheers ! which boards are decent rated on those platforms. we should really have a cpu mobo and ram sticky thread for these chips.

MSI do BIOS flashback on many of their B450 and X470 motherboards so you don't need a CPU.

It looks like another AMD launch where you need to look back in a few months. AMD,AMD never changes!!

My Taichi, 1700, and 3000mhz cl14 ram worked fine straight away at launch and even allowed me to increase the speed to 3200 for the ram without any other adjustment, which has been solid for the last 2 years.

Theres a Bios release by Asrock for my board and the new x570 boards on 3/7/19 which don't list the 3900x. This may have been updated for the x570 boards by now but its weird since the old Taichi's apparently have a VRM design capable of even supporting the 16core overclocked according to the AM4 mobo tier list.

This reminds me of the Zen launch - my B450I Strix has a 6+1 phase VRM which should be fine too,but I think AMD needs to iron out the X570 issues first!

what is wrong with 370 or 350 boards?

Not all x370 and b350 have gotten a 3rd bios upgrade path so have been excluded .

Not saying that a b350 or x 370 can’t run the new 3rd gen but would you like to pair it with a board without official bios coming for it ?

Any reviews yet of Zen2 on B350? Wouldn't mind a simple upgrade like 3700x from R5 1600, although realistically I'll probably wait for a price drop as the chips with 8+ cores are pretty expensive considering they haven't dominated in gaming as much as was originally hoped. I think they've missed a trick really, they need an 8c chip under £300 (bearing in mind 2700 is only £180) so a 3700 with lower clockspeed but overclocking potential might have gone down well.

Not seen any yet!

Another series of inconsistencies on AMD CPU from the "big" reviewers.
Some used 2133 ram (Jay2Cents), instead the 3600Mhz kit AMD provided, others used stock AMD Wraith on 3900X while on the 9900K used AIO, and the FlareX 3200Mhz ram (Hardware Unboxed)

Only Linus run a pretty solid review this time, using the high speed ram AMD provided (3600Mhz), and an AIO for all CPUs.

Okay its just that I have a gen 1 with a gen 1 board and don't want to buy another board if I don't need to.

Will look into bios upgrades
