OcUK Ryzen 3000/Zen 2 review thread

Any other 9700K gamer owners feeling a sense of relief?

Was expecting more from the 3700 / 3900 tbh.

Same thing was said by I5 8600K owners when the 9700K was released. If you purely game then nothing has changed sine 8700K/8600K was released almost 2 years ago. For those who do more than game AMD have arguably been ahead since first gen Zen was released. Now we have an AMD CPU that matches Intels best for gaming and leaves them in the dust in price/perf for everything else.

My wife is keen to upgrade her i5-2500K (stock) system and the MSI B450 Gaming Carbon Pro + R7 3600 seems perfect for her. I'll play with my rig so that hopefully I can get hers up and running quickly when we order it in a week or two. :)
I was thinking of also upgrading my wifes i5 rig to the the MSI B450 Gaming Carbon Pro + R7 3600. I have a spare spire cooler from a 1700 and so I could overclock a little.

That looks like it's boosting an extra 200-250MHz. That should give another 3-6% increase in performance. But AMD did advertise at 4.6GHz boost so maybe more tweaking to do.

There are a few issues with boost,so we might be seeing more performance in reviews in the next week or two.

Yeah, I was gonna use the Wraith Spire that comes with my R7 3700X with the R5 3600. :D

What are we talking for as an upgrade cost from a 6700k to a 3800x? I have no idea what motherboard to partner with the new Ryzen stuff but I do remember seeing a story of some crazy expensive ones.
I already have a case/gfx card/nvme/soundcard so it would just be a new processor, mobo and ram to go with it I guess.

seriously considering updating one of my rigs to a 3700x for a play what mobo ans ram to go with it though. not a 570x as dont like the fan or the price of them currently. fan goes your left with a waiting to be dead mobo. so which mobo do you pick ?

Yeah thats a thought, i was considering just going x570, with the Taichi, but may be better off going x470 etc... instead, hmm.

you get an even better prism with the 3700x

what are you going to put on the 3700x? (I would be tempted to use the prism myself, but you have yours earmarked)
Gonna reuse my NH-U12P SE1366. I have no reason to keep my X58 rig up and running, it's too power hungry to use as a server. Already got the free AM4 mounting kit from Noctua installed on my X470 Taichi Ultimate. :D
