This is not helping to convince me not to upgrade from my q6600 at 3.2ghz

In fact, I've got a GTX 570 like you. Have you got any more benchies so I can compare? As many as you can sainly do will be ideal - at 1080p res with AA on

Maybe resident evil 5, mafia 2, hawx2, and unigine. Or anything you have so I can do them on mine : ) Need numbers before I splash out the best part of £600 only to find a 5% improvement

Reason I'm asking is I cant find many reviews using my card with sandybridge, and when I do, they are running the res at very low to take the card out of the equation.

I did a quick 3dMark 2006 at 4.9GHz late last night with the GTX570 at stock and it came in at a score of 32500 which beats my previous best of 30500 with tri SLIed 275's and an i7920 at 4.4Ghz

Using the H50 cooler with supplied Fan. At these speeds I getting to 70c after about 10 minutes of prime... to go further i may need a better fan.

Maybe, but it might be partly down to the way I approached the over clock. I have been taking it very steady over the past 2 days moving from stock through the multipliers one at a time and getting each 1 hour prime stable before moving onto the next one. This lets the CPU get used to the voltage and frequency without getting too much of a shock.

Everything was very easy on this chip up to and including 4.8GHz hitting 4.9GHz + was much more difficult.

My next step is to try and achieve 5.0GHz prime stable - Can prime for 10 minutes so far, so getting there.

5GHz Boot settings. 5.1GHz SuperPi by setting 5.1 in windows
The only other changes from standard are my DRAM Timing settings and some Fan Control (CPU onto Turbo and Chassis not controlled as I have my H50 Pump on it)

Things to notice:
'INTERNAL PLL Overvoltage' to ENABLED (Default is AUTO) *NB This is only on the 1053 Bios
'Load Line Calibration' to Extreme
'Phase Control' to Extreme
'Duty Control' to Extreme
Voltages as you can see.

I would like to thank the person that posted the Asus over clocking video yesterday, this gave me both clues and confidence to change these settings.

No not prime stable... well not yet anyway.
Prime stable at 4.9GHz - working on 5GHz at the moment.

Prime95 is rubbish, use LinX or similar. Folding@Home is also a great stability checker.

I agree LinX is better. I have been using prime, mainly because its a simple program that keeps all the cores at 100%, so it is a test but more importantly its a good tool to burn in you CPU at that speed.

I think you are right though... time has come to move over to LinX

No they go higher - not sure what the max, will have a look next time I'm on the machine.

You can't really say linx is better though. There isn't one single definitive test to ensure it's stable.

I installed 3dmark2006 as I like it and know where i am with it.

Quick question, is high voltage dangerous refardless of temperature increase? that is, will just the voltage frazzle the chip regardless of cooling? Even if it was theoretically running loaded at 20*c?

Just to put a bit of perspective here...

The guidance about voltages is just that guidance and it was also mentioned when Sandy Bridge had just launched and One chip (mine a 2500K) stopped working properly. We still don't know why it stopped working and probably never will.

As the week has gone on OCUK have stress tested some Sandy Bridge processors at higher voltages and nothing has failed yet.

Of course high voltages are risky, that's why you take it slow and easy, step up very gently and stop when you feel uncomfortable. Running these voltages day in day out would be very likely to cause problems, but for some benchmarking and screen shots to brag about, I think they are fine.

Having said all that i'm quite reluctant to go above 1.45 vcore.

Whats going on there? Asus prog says 1.365v and CPUZ says 1.464.?

I booted at AUTO vcore in bios and setting the vcore in windows if bios in Auto makes them not match... the CPUz value is the correct one.

SimonMaltby cpu could dies anytime sooner or later if he kept pushing more than 1.45vcore as he probably think ocuk will replaced his dead cpu if anything has happen to him.

Overclocking is a risk. My first CPU failed, but not because I did any stupid overclocking. This one is being overclocked in a controlled and calculated manor. I would not dream of running these voltages for long and would not dream of returning it for an RMA if if failed and i thought it was because I pushed it too far.

I brought this chip to have fun, and to me fun is benchmarking. I know and accept the risks as do many others on the forum.

There are many levels of overclocking. Here they mainly fall into two types: like me that want to get the best benchmarks they can, those that want a safe extra bit of speed.

So chill a little and just enjoy seeing some nutter go mad LOL.

But that is it for me until a new bios comes out... I just can't use the 55 Multi and the board is very unstable at any BLCK adj over 100.4

I have now scaled everything back and am running nice and cool at 4.8Ghz with 1.3v Vcore... nice and prime stable for 7 hours maxing out at 70c
