OcUK Staff - What's the consensus on Kolink PSUs?

Just thought I would chime in and say that I have been running a 500w semi modular kolink in my mining rig for the past month. It was running 4 rx550's and is now running 6 cards which is about the max I am comfortable with. Supply seems well built for being so cheap and so far hasn't caused any issues. It's nowhere near the quality of my Seasonic platinum but for what it is, It really doesn't seem bad at all. If it last two or 3 years under the load then it's done a pretty decent job.

@EsaT: The Continuum 1200W is made by Highpower, not by Enhance. However we were unable to get similar results for EMI testing. We sent pre production sample to lab for CE conformity testing which also includes conducted EMI. EMI was on the high side, yes, but still within the limit. When we saw the review results we doublechecked sample from mass production run. EMI was similar to pre production sample, not extremely high like the TPU sample. In the end EMI is not part of production line QC/testing (not just at Kolink but also in all the other factories I've seen. Even Delta does not test for EMI during line QC testing). Only very small quantity from each production run will undergo extra testing which often also includes EMI testing. If there is someting wrong with EMI in a single unit in mass production the chance of catching this unit is very low. Having a PSU with high EMI ending up at TechPowerUp is definately not perfect, but there is not too much I can do. Kolink does not send samples from lab to reviewers. Caseking and OCuk arrange reviews and take a unit from stock, so there is always the risk of a not perfect unit ending up with reviewers. Still, Continuum 1200W will get platform upgrade in june. This new platform is designed for significant lower EMI. Plus overall performance will be significantly better while price will remain the same. Stay tuned, first pictures should be available around Computex.

The Kolink Core 500W at TweakPC was tested with 500W load. It survived the testing and also actually delivered 500W. I don't think our recommendation for 24/7 load is similar to PMPO rating for speakers. I am aware other brands ratings are totally unrealistic. Our naming/rating is a little misleading, true, but technically not wrong. The Core 500W can deliver 500W. It's just delivering 500W static load won't leave room for transient spikes which are typical for modern components. Also lifetime will be reduced. High embient temperature in older chassis can also be a problem. That's why we recommend to load the Kolink Core 500W with 400W. Unfortunately system integrators (apart from OCuk) but also retail stores plus end users in our home market eastern Europe heavily prefer the higher wattage rating. Therefore we chose the optimistic naming for our cheap models, but avoided totally overrating them/using fake wattage labels. Our power label is 100% honest. I think this is better than what most other brands do. Re-naming our Core, KL and KL-M PSU with lower wattage names therefore is not an option. Even if we'd gain 50% market share with OCuk retail customers in this price segment (which is unrealistic) we'd loose too many sales in other markets/target groups. In the end the OCuk customer is not the average customer for Core, KL and KL-M. Even OCuk SI is not the average SI using our products. Different target groups require different approaches. There is no point of designing low end and budget PSU specifically for OCuk retail customers/forums crowd who are very demanding. We better focus on bringing more new products which will fit your needs.

@subbytna
- OCuk stock is the new version for a very long time now. Since mid 2016 only the new versions are beeing sold.
- KL is better than Core. Main advantages are efficiency, connectors/cables and quality of components.
ChugNorris is right - as always :D

Seasonic Bronze model S12II/M12II is quite old. Overall, performance is rather similar and cannot be compared to modern DC-DC PSU. They are using regular double forward with group regulated secondary part same as we do. Their component quality looks to be better though. From what I know Seasonic uses top notch components even for their Bronze series in retail market. Plus they offer much longer warranty. Acoustic noise at low load is lower with Seasonic, at rather high loads with Kolink. In the end it's like always: if willing to invest more money you probably will end up with the better product. Our competitiors map does not include S12II and M12II because they are usually more expensive. Stil, I've checked it out some years ago...

For special offers please ask ChugNorris. Maybe he can set up something nice for the community when preparing more deals.

I've noticed that many of the budget prebuilt PCs have a Kolink PSU, even systems that feature a GTX 1060. I'd wager that most members wouldn't recommend them, citing the usual alternatives such as EVGA, Seasonic, Super Flower etc.

I couldn't see OcUK using them if they weren't reliable, so what's the deal?

Sent Kolink a message on their web site . Wanted to know if their 850w ATX modular PSU had the additional 4 pin plug for motherboard which has an 8+4 socket. They quickly replied yes. When it turned up , it only had 1× 8 pin CPU plug. So disappointed with this I've since sent them two messages with no reply. So won't be using Kolink again. After sales customer support sucks.

I once had an issue and sent @Kolink PSU PM - Phil a Pm on here when I mutilated a 500w supply and the absolute gent sent me an entire set of new cables free of charge which I deem as awesome service. Especially as it was entirely my fault :) I have a couple of continuum (sp?) supplies now alongside a couple of Seasonic Platinums and honestly I have never had any issues at all with them and they have been perfectly decent for me. Perhaps drop Phil a PM and im sure he will help you out or at least advise.

People never tend to shout the rooftops when the service is good but are super quick with "to the interwebz" when the smallest of things goes wrong :) Not defending the lack of reply but pointing out that good service, even excellent is in their arsenal.

Where did you buy it from? We can arrange a return if it's not suitable for you. Sorry on behalf of whoever told you it had the 8+4 cable.

You more than likely don't need the extra 4 pin anyway. What cpu are you running ?
