For me, I think it looks like it will be either the 2920X or 1950/20X.

Might pair it with the Asrock X370 Taichi board.

Intel is still a possibility, but I think the value for money side of high end looks to be no further for me than an 8 core (e.g. 7820X).

WX memory config really kills its performance.

Bunch of things mean it doesn't scale as well as the 16 core refresh. Some is AMD some is the programs themselves.

WX definitely doesn't improve your general purpose power. But AMD have been pretty clear on the marketing that the enthusiast range is just the X branded ones.

Yeah = 2990WX really only excels when serious multitasking - I'll often be rendering out a video into four different formats while rendering out a sequence of 3D scenes while still working in Photoshop or Visual Studio - 2990WX will demolish my workflow.

Yep. "hmm, that sounds a bit ****"

*Turns out to be a bit *****

It's still an absolute behemout, but you could tell there was going to be a penalty there. I can't justify it, personally - but there are plenty of users that can, or will regardless.

Due to the major compromises of the WX versions I'd look at getting EPYC for serious multitasking.

I was really hoping to overclock the 2950x to 4.4ghz on all 16 cores with a AIO and that was what made be excited enough to buy it but that looks its not happening. Does precision boost in gaming mode boost only 4 cores to 4.4ghz during load?

Yes

Not really close to this but I envisaged reaching 4.7 on 4 cores on the 2950x. Not sure where I got that from and now a little dissappointed.

My sentiments exactly, and my 1950x clocks to [email protected] as opposed to certain review sites that say you need 1.4v. Don't want to risk silicon lottery on a new part unless 4.3GHz+ is guaranteed at a similarly low voltage and memory latency improvements are there.
