OcUK Work Exp.?

i would do that if i didnt get heaps of homework/coursework.
i wouldnt bother doing anything for work exp just the careers woman is abit strict and i would need one hell of an excuse for her to believe me :p

Do what I did. Fake it. Tell them you are going to work for your Aunts business or something and take 2 weeks off.

I already had a part time job at the time and failed to see then and still do now how putting in extra hours something else for no renumeration was going to be of any benefit to me.

A slight snag is that your careers person/tutor/whoever may come round to see you whilst in your place of work; this was the case at my old school. A way round it as I remember is to say that you'll be with a window cleaning firm for a few weeks. That way, you wouldn't be working in a fixed location, and could take a few weeks off as you mentioned.

Work as a grease monkey for a week at a garage. IT IS AWESOME.
It's how I learnt to do basic stuff on a car, like change oil, check oil, change wheels, oil filter and other random stuff. Most people don't get taught that sort of thing so it's a nice headstart.

I did my work epxerience in a printers, got paid a whole £100 for the week, isnt a lot but saying i was 15/16yrs old, nice of them to even give me anything i thought :)

Yeah it's just like Counterstrike but with better graphics ;)

you have watched that clip too many times :p

also, your better off getting a job/exp at a local something, supermarket or something along that line as its much easier to get than a tech store.

However I have a job at my local pc shop, if you have a good knowlage of the latest tech such as pci-e and good windows know-how then apply for a local, purple shirt land might be a good place too.

yeah id say my knowledge about pc tech is pretty good ;)

I did my first work exp in a theatre where I was currently helping out and it meant that I only had to work a couple of hours a day, which was cool.

The second one I was working for Asda at that point so did it there, was cool as I got paid :D

Were arnt talking overclocking here, no phase change, no d-ram drive strength. ;)
If you can deal with the word "stock" then go for it imo.

How old are you btw?, it would give some idea where to aim.

Ive just turned 16 (w00t for me). :)

I actually did work experience for the army. I was working with some civillian technicians in a chopper hangar. I didn't do any actual work because there wasn't really anything they could let me do, plus it was quite a slow week so everyone was just sitting around most of the time anyway.

My lower sixth work experience landed me a saturday job there which served me from just turned 17 til I went to uni. Not too shabby. Learnt very little if anything there though. It wasn't very challenging work. (Computer shop)

I was meant to do my work experience at marconi - big radio/electronics research facility.

Previous people had built basic robots..etc and had a great time. But they were having a big merger/or being sold or something so my placement was cancelled and i spent 3 weeks in a small electronics factory setting up PCB machines :(. They didnt have the time to teach me anything particuarly and i just ended up being effectively an extra worker.

I spent my work experience at HMS Gosport, the Navys mech and air engineering school. For a 15 year old it was pretty awesome- two days were spent crawling round sea-kings, helping to replace parts under supervision; one day was spent on the HMS Ark Royal, one day was spent on a nuclear sub engine simulator... working out how to divert power in case of failures etc, and another day was spent learning about the physics of the Rolls Royce Olympus engine (which was on Concorde).
As people have said, try and go somewhere that you think you might actually learn something. Going to a store and ******* around is a waste of your time and theirs... as someone suggested, go to a garage where they would be willing to teach you a few basics and it could be soem good training for when you get your own car - itll save you money if you can do all that sort of basic stuff yourself!

NO SWEARING.

Gilly.
