Oculus Quest 2 getting official wireless 'Air Link' mode and 120hz PC support

Reports on reddit that air link is very good, since it can use ASW (not sure exactly what it is...) and VD can't. Just waiting on the update now!

asynchronous space warp

TL;DR: Oculus is releasing a new technology aimed at reducing system hardware requirements while maintaining content quality across a wider array of hardware. Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) is a frame-rate smoothing technique that almost halves the CPU/GPU time required to produce nearly the same output from the same content. Like Asynchronous Timewarp (ATW), ASW is automatic and enabled without any additional effort from developers.

Well that sounds pretty damn handy...

You'd assume given Virtual Desktop it's already a thing an Oculus would have to make sure any first party streaming solution would have to be at least as good as VD before they release it!

Any word on a release date for the Airlink update?

I’ve got v28 on the headset. Quickly tried Eleven Table Tennis and made a profile for 120hz and yeah... you can totally see how smooth it is. I didn’t alway notice the difference between 72 and 90hz but this was night and day.

Will update PC later and hopefully try Air Link.

u got it ?
did u get notification on phone ?
i looked last night, no update

No notifications. I actually went to check this morning and then manually do it, but my headset was dead, plugged it in and checked about 20 mins later and it was updated. Imagine it must have happened through the night?!

Airlink is up and running
Select it in the beta tab on the desktop oculus software and then it will appear on the headset
Just given it some testing and it works well, Virtual desktop performs better still for me but that's probably as it's running 120hz and Airlink is currently 90hz

Also have it, although I can't get audio working but that be due to HTC headphones and seems to suffer a big stutter on both the GPU and CPU at the same time every so often although it's maxing out at 90fps. I found the vd beta release better with no stutter and reduced lag also hitting 100+ FPS

IF you have the encode bitrate changed in the the debug tool in your PC, you have to change it back to 0 for the Airlink to work properly.
